@ace he's talking about the show so I have to agree with him, its not very detailed and it's missing a lot from the books, it might not seem like much for people that have read the books but it does change the tv series. character and the whole plot seem very rushed which makes the show not as good as the reviews say imo and nowhere near as good as the books.

Seen the show and read all the books and frankly book 5 is a big disappointment - that fat Santa lookalike, beard wearing old fate just repeats the back half if book 4. He had so better pull his finger out cos we're only a season away before he has to pay a team of writers to **** his legacy!

You say it's rushed... he says it's too slow... I say it's pretty good... different strokes for different folks. It might not be 'as good as the books', but a TV recreation never is. I think they are doing a pretty good job at turning a complex story with over 1,000 named characters into a TV show suitable for the masses.

Just to say, I haven't read the books actually. The show is just the slowest drama on television I've ever watched. It's interesting, but sometimes I feel lik i should just save the whole season up for watching in one go so i feel like it's going somewhere

They also expect you to remember all the irrelevant characters names when they talk about them which is sorta annoying. I don't even know female lannister's name lol, though this is just a gripe/whine with no critical basis silly

meh, tbh I think the show sucks, its not nearly as good as the books and the only reason I watch it is to see the world which I think they do a pretty good job with, the rest is bad imo, specially a lot of the characters.

Serious_Much wrote:Take jamie for instance. For 2 seasons he's a massive douche, then in all of 2 episodes this season they try and put on you that maybe he's not such a bad guy- they just throw it at you with no prior hints or build up- thats poor scripting in my opinion.

The hints go all the way back to when Robert Baratheon asks Jamie about what the mad king say before he stabbed him in the back and the part where Jamie talks to Ned Stark about the killing of his father and brother in the throne room in the throne room itself. Also Jamie hints at his skills saying how the competition is stale these days and having high admiration for Barristan Selmy calling him a painter that only uses red. Jamie is very proud of his skills only to have it taken away which puts him into full blown depression.

I honestly think you haven't paid much attention to what has been said and looked beyond face value. Maybe they could have done more but in all honestly I found everything just right.

His skills were obvious and constantly referenced, and obviously he'd have an emotional response to the removal of his hand, but thats not what I was talking about.

Anyways, that's two things both being in season one. I hardly think that counts as a reasonable character progression. Really, that isn't character progression at all. His whole demeanor never changed until this season, and suddenly he becomes different. I don't really know how you can stick up for it when it's done so badly.

There's a lot of things I enjoy in Game of thrones, tyrion and daenerys both have very interesting plots and good progression for instance.. Jamie's progression was either badly written, acted or both.

Jaime is not diferent, hes just acting diferent so that the tortures take easy on him. Jaime has never been evil too, he just don't think before doing stupid things and he really does not care about anyone else besides Tyrion and more recently, Brienne. He does not even care about his sister

About the last episode, he said that story about how he killed the mad king and stuff, but he knew that if he had not killed him, his father would, no matter what. He just killed the king because he wanted to.

So, I don't think he has changed, but now, he will think twice before doing stupid things

The only thing jamie ever thought he lived for was fighting... and what happens when your passion gets taken away from you? he lost his sword hand so i do think he changes.. we see him struggling to change and to adapt to these new conditions. Jamie is one of the reasons why the books are so good... there is more sides than one to every character... there is no direct good or bad It's all left to choice...

oh ya by the way the episode today was the worst iv ever seen... it was pretty bad.

SPOILERS: Jaime still *** niggas up with one hand.

Actually I can't really remember what he does... Other than like one specific scene. I think he mopes around a bit, then starts running the war, taking on more of a strategist/general role.

Jaime's character was handled better in the books maybe? I'm not sure, but in the books his transition from jerk to good guy worked really well and made sense. In the series it works for me, but I'm watching the show while knowing all the stuff that happened in the books as well, so that might color my perspective.

Yeah that episode was pretty doo doo. I usually don't mind when they differ from the book a little... i actually prefered the second seasons change from roose bolton ruling harrenhall to Tywin. The conversations Tywin had with area are great it was deffinatly a better choice.... but this episode... it's like they try to ruin beric dondarrions reputation.. that pisses me off... yeah the ending was not creative at all.

    @poli: Ruin it how?

I think they've done reasonably well so far in line with the books. I'm disaapointed at a few things like Sam's encounter with the white walkers. They just dropped it at end of season 1. I am looking forward to the next 2 episodes.

I think we have to remember that the books go into more detail aboiut the underlying currents and political sways which are missed in the series - you really have to concentrate on the script to pick it all up, much like Serious pointed out above.

They made melisandra visit thoros and beric.. something that never happened in the book but was a good idea because you get to see the link within their religion. but then they make beric sell gendry to her, something viewers may see as a bad choice (unless you root for team stannis like me). Gendry in the book stays with the brotherhood for a long time working for them as far as i know.. i havent read a dance of dragons becasue the softcover hasnt come out yet.. (they have delayed it 3 times now so i have to wait for october.. or until library clears up). Anyways... many of the viewers prolly dont care that much about beric anyways... i just get touchy when they mess around with him... love how he looks and the actor does a good job to.. something the show has done perfectly so far.

This is all because they don't have the Edric Storm storyline in the show, so they combined his character w/ Gendry's while highlighting the newest religion. I'd bet anything that in one of the next two episodes you'll get the 'blood of a king' scene w/ leeches from Gendry...

Why is does everyone get so uptight about that? sure theres a pair of boobs usually once an episode... but why is that a bad thing.. it helps to establish relationships, the setting, and the moral values of the characters in this world.. plus who doesn't want to see a pair of boobs?

I can tell you that sex and naked bodies are a common theme in George Martin's fantasy books. The most recent scene with Ygritte getting naked in a cave and having sex with Jon Snow IS straight from the book.

A Song of Ice and Fire series is adult fantasy so you better get used to it if you want to continue to watch it.

I think this season they've toned it down enough.

Thing is they used to just have characters just have sex on screen for no real reason other than up running time and get all the adolescent teens watching it. I felt it kinda detracted sometimes from the show..

The only times they ever REALLY used sex scenes well were for danaeris and her husband, cus that showed a marital struggle. Other than that it's all been very superficial, and while I don't think it ruins the show, it does make it a less classy show than say.. Mad men or Sopranos etc.
