    Weapon for Dexterity/Thief build

Post by ADORNTHESPIDER on Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:10 pm

I played up to New Game++ with my Knightromancer, and now I started a new character with the intention of her being more about speed and parries, rather than just blocking everything.

Anyway, I started with the thief class because I love the critical chance, and the Bandit's Knife works wonders, but what weapon should I get when my BK needs replaced? I could really use some help here.

    Dex weaponry I recommend:
    Falchion/Scimitar
    Flamberge
    Gold Tracer
    Any Katana
    Quelaag's Furysword

Do they have a high critical chance? I know the Furysword scales with humanity. Love that thing.

Rapiers and Daggers are the only weapons with higher critical chances. Since Flamberge is a greatsword, it also has about as much power for critical hits as Rapiers.

Another good weapon class to consider are the halberds, Halberd specifically. It may not seem like a good weapon, but it has huge damage, a good moveset that can also be buffed by the Leo Ring, long range, and its attacks can stunlock quite well, as the hits are actually extremely fast assuming you don't miss.

I really want something to compliment my critical chance, since that will be my only hope with many of the bosses and enemies. I completely agree with the Halberd though. I used a Black Knight Halberd +5 through most of my time with my strength/endurance character.

There aren't any unique weapons that have a high crit chance?

Believe it or not, a Lightning Claymore +5 will do slightly more damage then a Lightning Rapier +4 with backstabs and ripostes, I never got to see which was better when Rapier was +5.
Due to the shear power of a Halberd, it will outdamage a crit weapon any day of the weak, especially on a Dexterity build.

So you're saying a these weapons do just as much damage, if not more, than weapon with a high critical chance. I see what you're saying, but I'm just concerned that when I'm facing bosses that can't be parried, I'll be screwed.

A critical chance will add a percentage of how much the crit chance is. For example, if a weapon normally did 100 damage with a backstab, a crit chance of 130 would bring the damage up to 130.
That being said, the shear power of a strong weapon will easily outdamage the tiny AR of a Dagger or most rapiers. The Rapier may be stronger, but not by much more and also it has weak AR so it would only be good if you were fishing.
Then again, I used to PvP with a Rapier, it is a beautiful weapon when used right.

I see what you're saying. Building a light character is a pain. I'm so used to slapping on Havel's Ring and using epic armor. I like the challenge this presents though. Thanks for all the advice.

If you plan on buffing something (magic, miracle or regular resin), pick the Dagger. It attacks faster than the Bandit Knife. Plus, how many people do you see running around with friggin' Daggers? Right? silly

I prefer the Bandit's Knife over the dagger because of the higher damage. It's good if you're only getting one hit in at a time, since you'll want to hit the most per hit. It also has higher crits and bleed. Although, if you're fighting a poiseless enemy, Dagger is the way to go.
