Red Tearstone One-slash Samurai Duels

So, Hulu has what seems like an endless amount of old samurai movies and I went on a binge, haha. Inspired me to make this thread

Most likely, a warrior would not survive a slash through his guts, let alone a stab in the back or through the torso.
Perhaps if he got lucky he could receive a flesh wound, or non lethal arrow, and still be able to carry on. Perhaps not


RULES
- Soul Level should not matter. We can set up duels on this thread or PM's and work out the location and type of Soapstone or Eye Orb to use.
- Bring your hp down to 300 or less, whichever you need to activate your Red Tearstone glow
- No magic. Weapon Buffs may include Fire or Poison Resin only.

Rings
- Red Tearstone Ring. Insurance to make this a more realistic samurai duel than typical DkS
- Other ring is completely optional**

**No Blue Tearstone Ring, and no Dark Wood Grain Ring. Lets leave the flipping to the ninjas


Weaponry
Right or left hand

- Uchigatana a.k.a. Katana
- Iaito a.k.a. Uchigatana (scroll down to Use section, this weapon does the fluid draw/slashes)
-Chaos Blade a.k.a. Tachi (notice it's longer and heavier than the standard, and the curve of the blade is nearer to the hilt, not nearer to the tip as with the other 3 in-game katanas, also see Muramasa blade )
- Washing Polea.k.a. Nodachi, or "Laundry-Drying Pole"
-Murakumo possibly an exaggerated Odachi (scroll to Methods of Use section. The Mura is always held in hand, and it hangs across the back when not in use)
- Black Knight Halberd a.k.a. Naginata
- Partizan a.k.a. Yari. Note it's r2 slashing abilities one and two handed.
- titanite Catch Pole a.k.a. Sasumata
- Blacksmith Giant Hammer a.k.a. Otsuchi ("large hammer")
- Hand Axe a.k.a. Ono
- Ghost Blade a.k.a. Tanto
- Warpick a.k.a. Kama [/ur]
- Composite Bow a.k.a. [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yumi]Yumi (really its the composite bow, but any bow is acceptable)



As samurai, you will mostly want to 2 hand your weapon, but dual wielding is encouraged as well. See Daishō

Armor
- Personal choice, mostly anything but do try to make an attempt. Don't come wearing a full Solaire set for example, it's completely Western not Eastern.
A few suggestions: Catarina Helm, Gargoyle Helm, Eastern Set, Adventurers set, Ornsteins set, Channelers set, Cleric Armor, Witch Cloak, etc..





1 Help each other by hitting and finally throwing poo. Wait for toxication to unleash your red glow
2 Buff and Bow.
3 Fight to the death

The Black Knight Halberd is not based of off nor does it have anything to do with a Naginata. The weapon design is based off of the Kwan-dao a Chinese weapon used in various Kung Fu styles most notably Choy Li Fut (Choy Lay Fut)

Naginata were significantly smaller and were traditionally used by women not samurai.

Nor did the Samurai use sai. The sai was a improvised ninja weapon made by using a farming tool.

As a samurai like armor, might I suggest the Eastern chest and the Hollow Warrior Helm? The helmet looks somewhat like a kabuto helm.

I thought the same thing about that helmet when I first equipped it.

It's a lot more apparent with armor like Eastern, though as we all know samurai armor isn't as heavily plated.

True, the Black knight halberd is definitely more theKwan dao than the Naginata. But I would say it's close enough for this purpose. And the samurai used Naginata quite often, even in Sucker Punch if I remember correctly.

No offense taken! I was iffy about the sai from the beginning, I was just trying to find a way to incorporate the parrying dagger somehow. I wouldn't really mind taking it out, let me know what you guys think about it.

It's actually quite diverse, there are samurai armors that go from quite heavily plated to not quite armor at all. I'll probably rock Waistcloth of the Channelers and a ponytail a lot of the time

Bandit Chest makes really good looking samurai armor btw. Also, the vanilla Scythe is rather reminiscent of a naginata.

I was wondering about the Scythe as well, the look just doesn't quite scream samurai to me . It would be nice to add a 2nd pole weapon option. Idk I'm iffy on it

Had much success with this throughout the night, mostly Ramenator and me, with a few other takers here and there.

What did you guys think about the one-slash aspect of it? It was fun and pretty tense, but I have an idea that I feel might make it a bit more fun...


Drunken Samurai. Leave RTSR on, and simply fling poo at each other before duel, until intoxicated. Then buff and bow. We would need to get more specific about starting HP. Perhaps a round thousand? Thoughts?

Awww, I thought you meant both players drink until intoxicated and fight under influence

I could keep up "hitting a lot of green blossom" while you guys "chug estus", no alcohol here for me anymore :p
