    Pyromancy question

Post by DaFarmerProject on Tue Apr 23, 2013 9:40 am

    Short question.
Which is more versatile, considering the SLs needed for attunement, Chaos pyromancy or regular pyromancy? For example, should I use Great Chaos FB and Chaos Storm taking 4 slots, with a few uses, or GFB, Fire orb, Great Comb., and Poison Mist?
Personally, I like the Chaos Pyromancy because it scales with humanity, and it leaves more AoE damage. But I wanna see others input.

Chaos fireball is a good choice but I personally wouldn't bother with chaos storm unless you are intending to do a lot of PvP or troll people. It's not that much better than Fire Tempest which only needs 1 slot.

For me, it's about versatility and you'll have lots more if you combine chaos fireball with 2 other pyromancies (assuming you won't get above 4 attunement slots), that's just my opinion though!

Yeah, actually I've never really gotten Fire Tempest (2nd playthrough, 1st with pyro) but I've gotten Chaos storm and its pretty BA. And I may get 6.. Just so I can have all Chaos pyromancies because I feel like I might as well go on and get Chaos Fire whip at Izalith. So yeah, I guess it can go either way. Thanks!

Use Choas fireball but i wouldn't bother with the others 2 slots is too valuable, i'd have temptest and great combustion\black flame in the other 2 slots.

Alright.. But I thought Chaos Fire Whip had good range. Wouldn't it be useful for PvP?

If this is for pve, I'd use Great Combustion and Great Fireball as opposed to chaos because of the number of castings. I used FT for the same reason.

The mists are usesless (for the most part) in pve.

If you're talking pvp, then I wouldn't use any fireballs without apprx 40 dexterity. If you do not have the dex, you can still use the combustions with great success.

The mists are not as potent as most of us would like in pvp, but they do serve as nice distractions.

The Chaos Fireball is great for bs fishers when you cast it locked off. It takes practice, but it is quite effective.

Fire Surge is also great for pvp, not so much in pve.

    Good Luck

Chaos Fireball is great for PvP, because the lava does additional damage to HP and Poise and most people will avoid it. You can jump in the lava and use it as a cover to do something else. Also, if somebody walks in on you and backstabs you, the lava damage will cancel that bs.

Chaos Firestorm is not that great, because Fire Tempest does more damage and has bigger pillars, so it's easier to hit with it. Since the spell knocks the enemy away and grounds him, he's likely to land out of the lava.

Chaos Whip is useless imho. Just like the regular Fire Whip it's slow and leaves you open to backstabs. However, if you do manage to get a hit and the whip generates the lava effect, it can do some impressive damage.

That's PvP. In PvE, ditch Chaos Pyros for the regular ones, as you can do way more damage with those.

Not trying to high jack your thread but i'm building a pyro as well. So, i figured this a good a place as any.
I have stat problems. Sentiel thx for weapon advice, i'm working on those.
    Here's my problem.
Got an sl 11, wanting to boost to at least sl 40 for now. Have enough souls to boost 18 levels so I can escape depths and progress my game. For those who haven't seen my other posts i like small weapons like hand axes and clubs. My weapons are being sorted but i need to boost so i can go kill butterfly then do BTown then off to Sens.
    Stats are as follows;
    vit 10, att 14, end 11, str 16, dex 13, res 12, int 10 and faith 8.
i'm thinking of putting int to 16 for 2 reasons. soul ray family works better than a bow on butterfly. Also i need dragon shield and i don't want to waste arrows.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated keeping in mind i can ONLY boost 18 levels. I tried a pyro build i got on the other forum but my problem is when to put the points and how many at a time.

Since Pyro only scales with the glove stats dont matter. Find a weapon you want see what its best stat bonus is and level that stat. But as a side note to level the pyro glove to ascended + 5 takes like 350,000 souls.

talkin with Seniel. My choice sword would eventually be chaos hand axe. right now I have magic club +5 and a +10 halberd. Halberd goin fire or i'm just gonna use all hand axes, makin them lightning, divine, (just for catacombs), fire and hopefully chaos if I can get the stones.
And how do I get an ascended +5? I have only been to 15 before

You need to see Quelana in Blighttown. She can ascend your flame from +15. To find her, from the Blighttown second bonfire, turn right, and keep going straight. Eventually, you will see a big stone pillar, which is where she is.

Renegade already answered your Pyro question.
Hand Axe is fairly usable thorought the whole game, but I'd recommend geeting something blunt for Catacombs, like a Club, because it shatters skeletons upon hit, which makes dealing with them a LOT easier.

Moonlight Butterfly is kinda resistant to magic, so if your spells do him damage compared to a bow, you should rather upgrade the bow. If you're in Human form, you can summon NPC Phantom Witch beatrice under the stairs leading to the boss. She isn't much of a help, but it's better than nothing.

I usually use the soul family spells because with a bow I can't dodge or block fast enough. I know where most npc's are, I just didn't know quelana ascended the glove. I thought it was like meltstone in demons. I thought it was mainly so you could do snuggly trade.
Thanks for advice guys. Gonna go boost my toon shortly.

Like others say, Pyromancy depends on no stat.. that's why it's so versatile. So really you just need to find a weapon you like and plan on using for a while, and ascend your stats to what the weapon demands. Probably also need some in your Pyromancy flame too.

So if I used all hand axes + 1 divine club, I don't need to boost my str or dex since the weapons will have a max AR? Also, should I boost faith from 8? My club only has 300 AR. (Think it was 300 lol)
My glove right now is at 10 but I will ascend it once I get souls.

Well, if your hand axes (or any weapon for that matter) are elemental (lighting/fire/chaos) you won't need the str/dex, because they don't scale with stats.
I wouldn't boost faith just to get higher AR on a divine weapon when its only purpose is killing skeletons. Just backstab the skeletons and they'll die in 1 hit anyway. Or if you don't feel like backstabbing, simply hitting them with a club stuns them for a long time, so you can stun-lock them. No need to boost damage with faith.

All hand axes are going to be elemental. My problem, (cause I still suck in some areas) is trying to get to B Town with a +5 or +10 hand axe. I do buff but my arthritis plays tricks on me sometimes lol. I may start a new build, (just to keep my str n dex at base until I need to boost for bows). My toon as it stands seems messed up after all the help you folks gave me. I've checked builds on here and on Dark Souls site and haven't found anything that matches my build. Most of them use bigger weapons so adjusting my stats properly is my down fall. I'll see what happens with this one once I get to AL, then decide on if it's right or not.
