When I first started playing this game I spent most of my time behind a shield while my randomly summoned phantom wailed on the boss/enemies. So I have started a character in which no shields are aloud and I can only summon NPC's and I have to wear the shadow garb at all times. I've been loving it and i'm planning to get through as many play-throughs as possible (Ninja Flipping).

I have been using a falchion to parry in the left and have a katana in my right hand but i am wondering if i'd be better off with Dual katanas or some other weapon. I don't really want a parry dagger as I want to utilise my left hand a bit more. Suggestions?

Also how viable is this in say NG+5?

I prefer the rapiers parry. Haven't picked up the game in a few months but if I remember right I liked the Katana's a bit better.

as far as viability it just depends on how you use your character. If you stack your stats right and upgrade your katanas correctly you'll see good use out of them as long as you can keep playing.

here's the weapons with 45 dex. You can play around with the builder to give you an idea of what you want if you don't already know. http://mmdks.com/2096

Ah, thanks I might try out the rapier's parry.
I had something along the lines of this http://tinyurl.com/d68scby
But I am planning on having different elemental katanas/off hand weapons.

The +15 will still do more damage than the elemental weapons. Elemental do more damage before resistances come into play but in the end the normal upgraded will do you better.

Oh I know that, I meant just for the off handed weapon to be elemental, or do you still think the off hand should be normal?

I'd go normal. Elemental is kinda useless.

Sweet as. Thanks for advice, i'll try out a rapier. One more question. For stats : Dex = 40,
Faith = 30, End = 40, Health = 40. All that's pretty much given but as i won't be summoning or doing PVP I won't be worrying about a level cap so what do you think i should stack now bearing in mind I'll be at high NG.

I myself think you're better off with keeping the Curved Sword in your left hand.
While duel Katanas will allow faster bleed build up and slightly more damage, in the end a bleed out is rare and the Curved Sword has a much faster recovery. I tried duel Katanas but I always end up only attacking with my right and only parrying with my left. At least with the Curved Sword you have a fast attack that can be followed up.

Dual kats are fun, but I think you'd do better with a curved sword on the off hand, since most people have the poise to withstand a hit you can get an L1 in before riposte anyway.

Duel Katanas are hard to get used to, unless you're using an Elemental Washing Pole in your off-hand, otherwise it's pretty pointless because the Katana in your right hand will do the same if not more damage then the one on your left, so it pretty much ruins the point other than the fact that you look cool doing it.

mmm, I would probably only attack with the right if i had an identical weapon in my left. At least with a falchion i'd get more weapon versatility.

I'd also go with a falchion in the left hand.

Something else to think about is Strong Magic Shield.

You can't block with SMS on a falchion (obviously), but you can reduce the damage from partial parries with SMS. Its only 15 int...just something to chew on.
