    Quick Question! Empty Quick Question!

    Hello,

Some of you might have seen my previous post about some of my interrogations about the game; well I bought it and its pretty amazing.

After a few hours of gameplay, I just defeated the gargoyles and I have a question. Is there such thing as light/medium armor in this game? Also, are fast, slim weapons viable? I haven't changed anything about my gear except my shield and blade so far (as adventurer) because I feel like every piece of armor that drops slows me down noticeably. I'm using the Jagged Ghost Blade that drops from the ghosts in what I think is New Londo. I looked up weapons list and it has almost twice the attack damage as swords that are marked as best in the game, such as Dark Sword. There were also no curved swords or something like them in the "best weapons" lists I consulted.. Why is that?

ok first - though the game doesnt technically classify armor as light/medium/heavy, armors do fall into those categories based on how much they weigh you down. this relates to your running speed and your dodge capabilities. at 25% or less weight (including weapons and shields) you will roll and run very fast. at 25.1% to 50% it is notticably slower, and above 50% it feels like your dragging a dump truck and you do roll so much as you just kinda lay down and then stand back up.

as far as weapons go there is something that is called Scaling i.e. how much a weapons damage improves along with your stats. also certain weapons damage animations, along with reach and buffing (fire, lighting) make them higher class than others

if you watch youtube, i would suggest looking at videos made by EpicNameBro and Vegeta311. there are many others who make good videos but those are two that are very experienced, make high quality videos, and dont always expect everyone who is watching thier videos to have hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I can tell that you probably weren't comparing them at max upgrade and stats, because fully upgraded and with 40 str and 40 dex, Darksword has 418 AR while Jagged Ghost Blade has 257. Jagged Ghost Blade also has shorter range I believe. It does cause bleed though, which is nice.

Anyway, yes, fast weapons are completely viable. You may not do a lot of damage per hit, and you probably won't be able to stunlock either, but there's very little risk when attacking with a fast weapon. With slower weapons you can be locked in an animation for several seconds, which is bad because you are really easy to hit then. With a fast weapon you can just attack once and roll away, making it far less likely to be hit.

There really is no "Best Weapon". Each weapon has diffrent characteristics. They scale with diffrent stats and have different damages, different speeds, diffrent lengths, and diffrent weights.

Demon's Great Axe has the best damage in the game and can knock some people down, but it weighs a ton and is very slow.

The Bandit Knife is very fast and light, and it has a critical bonus and bleed, but it's short and does little damage per hit if you don't use a critical attack.

Curved swords probably weren't listed in the "Best Weapon" list you mentioned because the author doesn't prefer them. Honestly, I think the Painted Guardian Sword, a curved sword, is one of the best weapons in the game. It has little weight, decent damage, bleed, and the ability to stunlock. However, other people hate it because it has little range and damage. Yes, I think the damage is good, but others think the damage is crap.

The "Best Weapon" depends on your playstyle and preference.

One word... ENDURANCE. Heavy armor requires endurance to move. Go shirtless and helmless. Heavy leggings and gauntlets is all you really need, early. As you level END, add more pieces of armor, if needed.
