There I said it. I do not believe this is going to be a prequel based on the evidence we have at the momment.

Despite Dark Souls having two endings, there is honestly one inevitable end result.

"One day the flames will fade, and only dark will remain."

Even if you choose to delay the Age of Dark, by linking the first flame, it will eventually fade. What then oh undead warrior?

There is also the possibility that dragons have returned by "natural means." There is the one survivor of the evelasting dragons in Ash Lake, and people even Trained themselves to be dragons.

Given the little amount of info we have, I would not be so sure that the next game will be events before the first.

But the flames haven't faded. We know for a fact that bonfires will return.

Well, it might be that FromSoft would make the "link the fire" ending canon, but i highly doubt that. i think this will be a prequel. But who knows, since time travel was introduced, and hinted on, in the dlc/prepare to die edition.

It might take place at the same time as the first Dark Souls. I'd consider it very likely.

True. If the "Link the Fire" ending is canon, then it makes sense that there's a sun out in DSII and that the enemies so far don't look corrupt by some Abyss/Dark Magic in some way, except for that "Demon" hidden in the frames of the Despair trailer.

Now the other thing that I have is this: What happened to the Gods that left Anor Londo due to the events of the first game? Do they appear in the new land to seek haven from the fading First Flame, or is there going to be a twist ending that they somehow "all died before reaching their destination" cliche'?

Perhaps. What i think about that is that they, just as Gwyn and all other dieties, are directly connected to the first flame. They might turn crazy as the flame got really close to completely fade away. But we know that they did not die, atleast that gwynevere survived. I think her covenant ring says thay se got married to the fire god Flan. Now if the ending is canon, and it follows that, they probably will be involved somewhat.
