Use it, it has the EXACT same stats as the regular Mage set. Only the color is different. I got it from a modder too. Most people don't even notice it's a different set btw. But I have both upgraded to the maximum. It's the same

I only mod for my armour for the fun factor, I don't see it as an advantage. As in, I won't do Havel's +15, or 4 Havel's chestplates.

I think Elite Cleric and Mage Smith sets are completely legit to use, because those don't give you any unfair advantage.

You know, except for the fact that they were taken out of the game. Then yea, if you ignore that then they are completely legit to use.

the armor has a little better stats than the sorcerer set and has the same weight as black sorcerer set

Mage Smith is just the Hybrid of normal Sorcerer's Armor and Black Sorcerer's Armor, there's nothing special about it.
I'd see it fine to use Mage Smith, although I don't entirely agree with Elite Cleric since it gives 400+ Slash bonus and the highest Magic Defense of any armor set.

Elite Cleric has like 3-5 more def (doesn't affect anything) than the normal cleric one /piece + few points more poise, but weights more. If Elite cleric armor is OP so is Elite Knight compared to Knight armor.
Other armors (like Guardian, Giant, Black Iron, Havel) are all still better and exist legitly in the game.

Just checked and mage smith has better physical defense than black sorcerer but that is the only thing that is better
