    I gave my friend my copy of dark souls so he could play it. Sadly I won't be able to participate in the event this weekend, but it's been fun. He's been calling me constantly to ask for help. Here's the highlights of his story:

    Once he got out of the jail cell, he thought the game was dumb because his fellow cell-mates weren't fighting back. He ran past the bonfire and tried fighting the asylum demon with his broken sword. Needless to say he died and called me for help.

    Once he got to Lordran the first path he chose was through the graveyard. After being killed by the skeletons a few times he called me again and I led him to the first bonfire near the Taurus demon. He killed the undead merchant because he thought he was an enemy, was killed by Havel, and then killed by the black knight before he finally got to the taurus demon. The Taurus demon killed him a few times, and after he finally won, he got to Solair and killed him for his armor(which he apparently didn't drop).

    Surprisingly he managed to get past the Helkyte wyvern without being burned to death and kicked down the ladder to open the shortcut. He was then killed by the rats once, and then the boar over a dozen times.

    He is still struggling against the Balder knights and hasn't even gotten to the undead parish bonfire.

    Typical first foray into DkS. Nothing to be ashamed about, except for killing Solaire, it's quite clear that he is not an enemy (the Merchant is obvious too but at least he looks like one of those Burg Hollows so I suppose it can be excused).

    What class is he and what is his primary weapon?

    His starting class was the knight. He switched his weapons to a Hollow Knight Shield and I think he's using a shortsword or spear that also dropped from a hollow. He's been dying so much that all his weapons are losing their durability.

    I was in his position a year ago but I returned the game after being constantly invaded by people w/better weapons and skills and armor so I returned it and just picked it up again a few months ago to give it a 2nd go(so happy I did too btw)and realized what I was supposed to do when I got to the burg. Now I know what to do and where to go and I f**king love this game!! Seriously i hope he doesn't give it up. He's lucky he has a highly knowledgeable friend like you to help him. Me on my 2nd try w/dark Souls all I had was an idiot on Youtube named Gh0stRobo and his atrocious playthru. I had no idea who ENB,PhantomEGF,or VaatiVidya was at the time so I had to make due w/good old Gh0stRobo

    I wish I could have my dark souls and demon souls knowledge deleted from my brain. Those first play throughs are amazing and no other games come close to excitement and anxiety these games give you. At least we know dark souls 2 is coming eventually. Tell your friend good luck and savor every death.

    I don't think he does. It doesn't matter much though, since he isn't playing online.

    He helped me get through a few points in dark souls. I had gotten the game and gotten stuck, where I dont recall anymore, did a search and his videos came up. I ended up watching his whole play through. He may not be the best at the game, but he is fun to watch. Now he is one of my five you tube channels I actually bother subscribing to.
