The Death of Game Chat

It seems to me that nobody ever talks in game chat anymore,they either don't have a mic or are in a party.All games have ended up like this which kind of makes playing multiplayer pointless.It's more or less impossible to make new friends or even get by in a co-op game like Left 4 Dead.

Anyone know what's up with that?

I've gotten to talk to randoms in game chat like once in the last few months.That was in Red Dead and they we crapping themselves at me throwing TNT everywhere.Live wasn't always like that,it's just gotten worse in the last year or two.Now it's kinda lonely with the silence,I should link a forever alone pic for the sentiment.

The last time I remember voice chat being prevalent was when Halo 3 first released. It's gone downhill from there.

The community is pretty dead.I've tried playing ME3,Left 4 Dead 1 & 2,Dead Island,Borderlands 1 and Black Ops 2 zombies with randoms,the only people with a mic ended with me leaving because the put some really crappy pop,rap or techno music over their mic to be annoying.

The problem with voice chat is that in most games it's much lower quality than say, making a party on Xbox or just plain getting on Skype. Why do the worse thing?

It's because alternatives are better. Mr Tart nails most of my reasons why I don't bother with it. Also using programs like Skype means you're not dependent on a console to chat. I can then chat without being interrupted if I want to do other things that doesn't involve a console.

I play on 360, I met a ton of great people by playing games before they introduced the Party chat feature and competetive gaming was a better atmosphere..mostly, you got screaming kids fairly often. Having said that, I do love Party chat.

Funny you should mention that,I'm currently trying to get my hands on a gaming PC and ArmA 2 will be the first thing I buy.
I know game chat has lower quality in certain games than party chat but many players don't use their mic when they aren't talking to friends.If any of you go play a 4-player co-op game on Xbox right now,only about 1/10 lobbies will have a guy in game chat.On top of that,most people are very hostile nowadays.It's kinda rediculous when everyone in multiplayer are anti-social.

It'll probably be easier to find people to play that with.The only things people want to play on Xbox are CoD or Halo.

I don't like either series as I feel they were ruined over time.Nobody plays Battlefield or Gears.And the only people who want to meet new people are recruiting for some try-hard clan.No thanks.

And between 50-70% are for CoD.I'm not joking.

My opinion is that Halo and Gears have been "CoDified".Smaller maps,craps spawns and loadout changes have ruined it for me.
I've been in and out of clans for the last 4 or 5 months,every one I join ends in me never being invited to anything because people clique up and only play with their friends.I fail to see the point in online gaming anymore,I'd expect Dark Souls to remain lonely but other games are about interacting with people.And the sad part is I've gotten more non-hatemail messages from DkS players than on any other game.
