Beretta 92 FS or Glock 19?

Help me decide which of these I should get as my new handgun. Both 9mm, the Glock holds 10, the Beretta 15. Im leaning towards the Beretta for the mag size, but love the look and feel of the Glock.
Any input, thoughts or feelings about either please let me know. Feel free to add your own ideas into the mix, but stick with 9mm please.

Oh while your at it, the next purchase will be a desert eagle 50 or a 1911 45. Thoughts?

Well the Assualt Ban in 'merica is bout to come where all new magazines will have to be under 10 rounds.

I'd say get the glock it has WAY more after market parts. Also it is nearly indestructible.

Neither, might I suggest you increase your firepower to .45?

Thanks for the input and pic. If you check my op, im going for an increase in power for my second purchase. I will have to have a closer look at your choice, I love the look of it. I will have a ask around my gun club and see if anyone has 1 I can test out. Thanks again for the input.

Skare, I would love a .357 but that will have to wait till 3rd or 4th maybe.

What is your purpose and intended use?

Also, how much experience do you have shooting handguns?

I suggest going to your local indoor shooting range and seeing if you can rent several different makes and models that you are interested in and trying them out for yourself.

Spend some time getting to know the functions of the different guns and figure out which you are able to shoot most comfortably and accurately.

45 ACP is great if you can use it effectively, but if you can't keep a decent group at 25 meters firing more than one shot every two seconds, but you can with a 9mm, go with the 9mm. With hollow point bullets and a 12-18 round mag you are going to cover any personal defense needs.
Me personally, I have a lot of experience shooting 9mm, and although I am decent with the 45 I always carry my SIG P226 9mm because I'm good with it. It also holds 18 rnds.

For self defense, I also HIGHLY recommend a Crimson Trace laser grip, which you can purchase for almost any handgun for around $200. It is an absolute game changer, as it allows you to shoot without aiming down the sights. All you have to do is place the pointer on what you intend to shoot and squeeze the trigger. It is also a great tool for learning how to shoot better, because your partner can actually watch you make mistakes like flinching, anticipating the shot, etc.

Oh, and in response to your original question, forget about the Beretta 92, it's junk. There are so many higher quality 9mm's out there. I don't know about the Glock, but I have used a Glock in .40 cal and didn't care for it. It was double action only which I hate, and fits in your hand like a brick.
The good thing about Glocks are the internal hammer (good for concealed carry because it won't get caught on clothing), and the simplicity.

Me personally, I like the SIG SAUER P226. It has single/double action trigger pull, safety decocker, built in picatiny rail, ergonomic grip, and overall very tight engineering (think about it like this, Italian engineering versus German engineering, which would you choose?). It also has a large magazine and you can find some with a threaded barrel.

And for the second part, about the 50 vs 45, I have to ask "why"?

If you just want a .50 for the helluvit, you might as well get a gold plated one too. Also look at the Taurus Raging bull line if you like macho man hand cannons for anti-dinosaur defense.

45 is a fantastic round, but without a good amount of practice you just won't be very good with it.

People like to theorize about how it is superior to 9mm or other small rounds because its a one shot show stopper, but IRL firefights don't happen like that. It's not like at the range where you stand up in perfect posture and take your time to aim. More than likely you'll be behind some kind of cover or running to some kind of cover while basically blasting in the direction of your target just hoping a round catches it. So, IMO, it is better to have more bullets, unless you're an SF operator and spend eight hours a day six days a week shooting guns.

1911's are great, and they're a classic, but they're pretty pricey and consitering that you can get a .45 caliber pistol that's in every way better (aside from looks of course) for several hundred dollars cheaper...well...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you're a hardcore collector.

BTMaster, thanks lots of good info and thoughts. To awnser you questions....
1st the main goal is to compete in competitions and club events. I have lots of experience with handguns, mainly from using other people's from the gun range as I only have shotguns and rifles right now. I plan to get a 9mm for 9mm events and a bigger caliber for those events. I have fired the Beretta and Glock lots and like them both, will have to ask around and see if anyone has this Sig you love so much. Thanks again.

Oh, well if it's for shooting comps I think you will just have to learn by your own experience. Or at least ask someone in that circle. Good luck!
