No, I know that people do enjoy playing PVP in Dark Souls but this stretches the PVP aspect of these games too far. The game isn't supposed to have all out multiplayer where we can have multiple game modes to choose from it's supposed to have both the multiplayer and singleplayers mix together.
I don't see this working and I really hate the idea of Dark Souls making these gamer friendly PVP modes for players to play on.

They have Capture the Flag already.
I'm honestly not in favor of a traditional mode of Capture the Flag either. Part of the wonder of the game was that you're alone except in fleeting moments, most of which are a super geared Darkwraith looking to ruin your evening. Even in times where we meet others, they're isolated and brutal. While a mass mode like most capture the flag games would be brutal, it kills the loneliness and atmosphere. The alternative is that when a capture the flag game is initiated it sets both players on a mission to get a single item, and would seem like an offshoot of the arena matches.
I'm not a fan of the arena matches. They seem to break the atmosphere through a story tangent. All other PvP feels integrated into the story. Also, there's no risk involved and I feel it cheapens the death experience. All arena players will respawn in their own world with no loss, in exactly the same area they started. Even hunters, who can invade from anywhere, even when hollowed play into the story to some degree and have an enriched experience. While they don't lose anything (even Wraiths have to go find their bloodstain) it still follows the lore atmosphere of hunter and hunted. Since it knits with the story, I personally feel the loss of an opportunity wasted and the idea that someone is still in MY TERRITORY! Finally, the idea of an arena is that you have a place you can visit, in which you know there are like minded individuals waiting for you. It feels too much like a home, despite it's violent nature. In the rest of the game, there are areas that are crowded, but the chaotic nature of who will greet you strips away any delusions of a home. Even my fellow hunters can't be relied upon for companionship, the damnable lot.
With that being said, if they add modes like this, I just hope it's not a requirement for anything. I don't like the arena personally, but it's about five steps in a hallway that I can easily walk past.
