Once upon a time, I witnessed stupid

Post by Hue on Sat Apr 06, 2013 11:36 am

Slight sarcasm in the following post

There's that guy, in my class who successfully sped up his torrent download speed to 300KB/s

    With Cheat Engine

Naturally, i questioned theout of him, i thought it could have been some really complicated stuff like...protocols? ()

But no, no, what was i thinking; it's much better than that, what the genius did was he enabled speedhack, and set it to 0.1

I tried it too, i was downloading a client for a private server of some crappy asian MMO
So i did that, i set the speed hack to 0.1, bam, 300KB/s
    Great huh?
But then, i noticed that for no apparent reason, my µtorrent was counting one second, each ten seconds

Download speed is calculated by divding amount of downloaded data by elapsed time

I sat there for a minute, trying to figure out what was going on and then i proceeded to , and lost any esteem i could have had for him.

I think this is the most stupidestest thing i have ever heard

A little bit of sarcasm in my post
Straightforward version: He didn't figure out that the downloads only appeared faster, because µtorrent was counting time slower (because of the 0.1 speedhack, remember?)
Obviously, there's much more downloaded data in 10 seconds than there is in 1, but µtorrent didn't know that, and it thought the downloads were faster
My genius "friend" also thought that, and he brags about it every time one of us says the word "torrent"

What an idiot. I get it now, and I don't see why you would boast about it.

He brags about how he sped up his torrents
Because he still didn't figure out why it works (or rather why it doesn't)

You should call him on it and make him look like an idiot.
