- Spoiler:
0) The "Riddle Ref" is the person in control of editing the thread. They reserve the right to ask for community opinons regarding rules and if rules have been followed. They also reserve the right to make decisions based solely at their discretion. This includes changing rules. They are also responsible for updating the original post to reflect the riddles, answers given, and conclusions of riddles. They can also resolve tie-breaker decisions, while at the same time submitting their own vote.
1) Riddles will have a shelf life of 72 hours and can have a maximum of 20 guess submissions.
1a) In the event a riddle posted has not been answered correctly and the 72 hours have lapsed, the author will give the answer and explanation verifying the riddle as unanswered, and the floor will be open on a "first come first serve basis". In the case 2 riddles are posted simultaneously, the riddle with the earliest time stamp will be valid, and the other riddle will be disregarded.
1b) In the event that a riddle has reached the maximum number of guesses within any time frame, the author and participants will continue as in rule 1a.(duplicate answers do not count towards the maximum number of 20)
1c) In the event that either the 72 hour time frame has lapsed, or the 20 guess limitation has been reached, and the author is unable to verify a correct or incorrect answer, the riddle will be concluded and the floor will be open with one stipulation:
-If a "guesser" has actually answered the riddle correctly without verification from the author before said riddle has been declared concluded and a new riddle has already been started, a new sub-thread will be created titled, "Dark Souls Living Riddles With Rules #1.1" for the sole purpose of giving a "guesser" the opportunity to take advantage of correctly guessing a riddle's answer. The exact same rules will apply in the aforementioned sub-thread. The riddles in this sub-thread will count towards the goal of 10 riddles for the creation the the "riddle-off" poll.
2) A riddle submitted must contain a category. They are as follows:
-Items:
This includes all the items in the game, as well as the keys. ie green blossom, peculiar doll, bequethed lord soul, weapon smith box, etc.
-People:
Any person directly in game, or hinted to in lore. This would also include enemies, bosses, optional bosses, etc.
-Weapons:
This includes weapons, armor, shields, ammunition, spells, pyros, miracles, rings, and casting tools.
-Misc:
This includes anyhting outside of the other categories.
2a) Guesses outside the riddle author's stated category will be determined valid by either the "Riddle Ref" or the author of the riddle. If there is a disagreement whether the submitted answer falls into the realm of "qualified answers", then the Riddle Ref will have the deciding vote.
*Creator's Reasoning:
Riddle authors are not required to give any clues. The rules in place allow someone who has correctly answered a riddle, the ability to simply post their riddle and walk away. This is apart of the "turn-key" or "self-maintaining" idea designed to keep the flow of the thread going and allow minimum maintenance. Using Dark Souls as a stand alone category is simply creating too large of a category. There are only 4 categories and one of them being misc. It creates a disadvantage to the author while simultaneaously putting all riddles on a level playing field when considering the competition poll. It is a default clue for all riddles, and is something I and others deem necessary.
3) Any forum member may call a riddle concluded and either post their riddle or call the floor open. Bearing in mind the rules and stipulations required to do so.
4) Whoever correctly solves the riddle will have a 24 hour window to submit their riddle. If they are unable to submit a new riddle in time, or choose to forgo the right to submit, the next riddle may be submitted on a "first come, first serve" basis. A new riddle may not be submitted until these criteria are met. There are NO RAINCHECKS. You shall either submit the riddle in 24 hours, or forgo your right to submit entirely.
5) The riddle, explanation, verified wrong answers, and the correct answer will all be documented in post numbers two and three. This is to clear up any confusion, and also to prevent 40-50 pages of nonsense for the "guessers" to sift through. This should allow for easy access and more enjoyment when participating in a riddle. Answers and explanations will be hidden in spoilers.
6) After 10 riddles are submitted and concluded a poll will be created to decide who had the best riddle. After 30 riddles, or the conclusion of "Dark Souls Riddles With Rules #3", there will be a "riddle-off" between the poll winners to determine who is the true riddle or .
7) You are allowed to submit a maximum of 3 guesses per post and/or 3 guesses per hour. This will give other people a chance to submit their guesses, and give the riddle a chance to last the full 72 hours.
8\ If you are unable or unwilling to follow the rules of guessing and posting riddles, then please do not participate. The Riddle Ref will be editing the op probably at least once a day, and will try to make sure it is accurate and enjoyable. Please do not create extra unecessary work for the Riddle Ref.
9) If the author decides to send the Riddle Ref a private message with the answer and riddle explanation, then the Riddle Ref will also help verify correct answers on their behalf. However, the Riddle Ref will obviously void themselves from participating in said riddle. The Riddle Ref will also under no circumstances reveal any hints about the riddle. They will simply judge and their comments will be only "you win" or "not correct".
10) The "riddle off" poll will be created exactly 24 hours after the conclusion of the 10th riddle. A total of 11, 12, or even 13 riddles may be included in the "riddle off" if it is necessary considering the ability to create a "sub-thread" for extenuating circumstances.
11) In the event the Riddle Ref is unable to monitor and update the thread, another forum member may replicate the thread as their own for the sake of communication between the authors and guessers. Situations that warrant the commandeering of a thread:
-The Riddle Ref has not edited or made any updates to the thread for 96 hours.
-The Riddle Ref requests another forum member to take over their responsibilities.
-A total of 3 riddles become submitted and concluded without any participation of the riddle ref. That would put the responsibility in the hands of the participants, and defeats the purpose of having a Riddle Ref, posting information in the op, and creates an enormous amount of information for the readers to sift through, thereby creating confusion and a lack of structure.
***The only exception would be when there is absolutely no activity in the thread from any forum member. However, once there is any activity ie guesses, riddle submissions, etc...the 96 hour time frame applies.
12) You may submit up to 3 riddles per thread, and have 3 riddles entered into the "riddle off" poll.
13) The winner of a Riddle Off Poll will be deemed the current "Riddle Master" and gain the following privileges....
13a) Once someone has been deemed "The Riddle Master" by the voters in the "Riddle Off Poll", they are given the option to become "Riddle Ref" for the next "Dark Souls Riddles With Rules" thread.
13b) On top of this, they are also allowed to enter the next "Riddle Off Poll" without formally making a submission in the relevant thread. They will be considered participant #11 so to speak. However, they MUST create a new riddle and not use the old riddle that helped them gain their title.
13c) So in essence, a Riddle Master will be able to defend their title in the next riddle off, while fullfilling their duties as a Riddle Ref (if they decided to be). If they lose the next riddle off, they will not be able to enter the next riddle off without being formally enter as before.
***While giving a clue like a category may seem like it would make a riddle too easy to solve, I think it will allow people to avoid answers such as: "What is Solaire's shoe size?" "Are the Asylum Demon and the Firesage Demon cousins?"..etcetcetc.
***If there are loopholes and/or additional rules that should be implemented, please let me know and I will edit them into the rules. Please try to understand the "turn-key" or "self maintaining" mentality before suggesting rule changes.
Thank you.
