So I'm thinking of making a STR build

for the Chaos Demon's Great Hammer. It has an insane AR, and i know it's split damage but thanks to that, it goes through shields, right? So it'll still deal some hefty fire damage to people and if it lands a riposte, then it's a definite killer.

Use normal Demon's Great Axe, S scaling in Strength, huge base damage anyway, in general a total destroyer. Stronger than Smough's hammer, can be buffed, and is lighter.
And of course, dat Uchigatana R2.

I have no idea, but I would think that it would only do like...25 damage against shields.

Plus, doesn't it have an S scaling in strength? I'm thinking there might be another weapon that has a HIGHER base AR but less scaling. Which would be even better for making into chaos

The damage that goes through shields will be very minor, i think it would be better to stick with +15 for the times you do hit you will do far more damage. And let me tell you, landing a riposte with that weapons at +14 does a hefty 1100+ damage, depending on how armored the enemy is.

Also, i'm a str weapons guy, and a str weapon is a thinking mans weapon. You can't just blindly throw out attacks like a dex weapon, no you have to plan. But when you do hit, you will do a ton of damage. I wish you luck with this.

Oh I know. I seep to do much better with those. The reason I'm considering is I did try the same thing on the hollows at firlink shrine.. A +14 zwei did less damage than a +5 chaos one. So I'm thinking it would be the same for the hammer? Or at least I'm hoping. Also, I prefer the Great Hammer movesets more than the sword ones.

The reason it did more damage was because hollows armor is not good enough to split the damage, in fact i believe they have one of the worst armor in the game, so the damage is barely reduced giving off the illusion that it does more damage, but attacking a real armored opponent it will do far less damage because the damage is split, having to go through two defenses.

Those guys have practically no fire defense.
Do the same with lightning, I'm sure the +14 will win.

I do indeed. Though between you and me, i rarely upgrade my weapons to +15, i merely go to +14, i don't think the extra 20 damage is worth all the time to farm it. I use my slabs that i earn when farming chunks to upgrade my armor.

imo the dgh has one of the best movesets against parry spammers, r1 then r2 is so good againsnt parry spammers or people that want to set up a parry since the attack looks similar but it's delayed sos they end up mising the parry and go splat instead. the dga is stronger though but it just depnds on which moveset you like better.

Well I happen to like the moveset, and looks, of the demon's great hammer more, though I do have a character with the axe.
