I summoned two phantoms on Calamity Dusk, and went through the level to get Dark Bead, Dark Orb, and Dark Fog. After we got all 3 spells, I decided I might as well try to kill Manus. He then cheapshot me before the phantoms got through the fog.

It's a glitch. If you cast HCSM, HSM, or Pursuers before the invader arrives, then the spell is invisible to the invader.
