Questions from an avid, yet new PvPer

Post by HavocDrive2600 on Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:18 am

After completing the game on NG+ at SL1 and dozens of mixed character builds I finally decided to start getting into PvP(which involved even more messing around with builds!)
At SL120 I ventured into the Forest with my pure STR build wielding a Black Knight Greataxe, having heard that was the ideal level and area for interesting PvP from browsing the forums. Over 200 invasions later, I ended up with only 5 deaths, only a couple I would consider respectable and sent them praise for the fight, win or lose happy Even if it was a 1v2 and one of the players was honorable and stayed out of the fight until the original 1v1 was over.
Now I'm wondering a few things:

    • Where the ideal area is for 1v1 PvP?
    • Can you summon phantoms into the Forest after Sif is killed? (Like Dark Anor Londo)
    • Lastly, since I have 6 points of equipment load spare to stay under the 50% burden, whether to switch my Elite Knight Leggings +10 out for Havel's(Another heavy piece) for more poise, currently at 68. Or equip Avelyn+15 w/ Lightning Bolts as a 2nd left hand item for quick use?
If anyone on XBL wants to duel feel free to add me and let me know happy

    Damn BKGA...
OT:There really isn't an ideal area. There will be farmers almost every popular location, so best bet is to join a fight club or something. You can add me though. XBL: bloodpixel.

*sigh* anyways at 68 poise you safe from most stunlocking so its really wether you want to be able to tank a zweihander hit of dodge it and follow up with crossbow bolts to the face

5 deaths out of 200 invasions? don't wanna be rude but that sounds sketchy if it is true I am with mildred you should give us advice, where you always alone?

Because whe I made my 120toon for the fight club I had about 50 or more invasions at dark anor londo mostly darkmoons I noticed were really easy I was going between lvl80-90 there, not sure cuz I didn't actually count but I am sure I lost less than 5.

@Everyone: I know it does sound a bit unusual, but in all fairness most of them were easy kills coming up against backstab fishers. The moment they drop their shield to start weaving around for my back is the moment they took a two-handed greataxe to the face :3

When it came to pyromancers/sorcerers, a roll/flip when I noticed the start of a spell cast, followed through with an Avelyn volley for 200-300 damage. Makes dancing with them alot easier. Although, one of those deaths was from my early encounters with Soul Spear spammers, was quite bad at evading spells back then. The rest were from:

    • Killing a player who was hiding behind the Giant Mushroom men who simultaneously punched me (NG+) after the invader died silly
    • 1v2 death where I was a dope and in trying to ensure one of them didn't backstab me while I was focused on the other, I backstepped off the edge.
    • Another fight I had an invader down to a near-unrecognisble remainder of health, another player then invades underneath me(at the forest stairs), backstabs me and then they both proceed to take turns bashing me into the wall and throwing lightning spears :|
    • Lastly, was my favourite against the best player I've come across, mostly because he didnt' play cheap(in my mind!) Using the Red Sign Soapstone we had 5 duels, losing one. I liked them because we didn't fish for backstabs, each duel we ran out of spells mixing up tactics and changing weapons mid-fight. We both talked alot after that silly

Also using a maxed Pyromancy Flame with: Greater Combustion(For defensive players), Greater Chaos Fireball(For when I'm paired up against someone playing a similar heavy build and they leave themselves open after a swing) And a spare attunement spot I'm contemplating what to use in there; Iron Flesh plausible for PvP?

@Yesuurd: I think 10-30 were with a friendly phantom when I first started and built up confidence, HOWEVER I never engaged in a 2v1, I either motioned away from the invader for my companion to let me 1v1 or pointed at them if I wanted to let them 1v1. silly I've only ever seen a rare few players do the same! Is there a general code of conduct for fair PvP? If I see an invader bow I will do the same, but I'm a bit wary since once I bowed a second later than them and they decided to rush at me and start off with a backstab mid-animation. I made a comeback, but I was quite annoyed at that display.:|

Just realised the huge wall of text where it sounds like I know much about PvP >.> It's just what has been working for me but I'm still trying to customise my build! Just assume most of those kills were bad backstab fishers or builds weak against mine silly

So out of Dark Anor Londo, Forest and Kiln it doesn't really matter for PvP hotspots?

And was that a confirmation to stick with Avelyn over more poise past 68? (I have no idea what poise makes me endure what weapon attacks/spells etc)

If anyone wants to duel me just a heads up my NAT setting is stuck at Moderate(Tried all methods, but I can't reset it back to Open sad )

XBL unfortunately sad Seems most of the community on here is PSN since Demon Souls. I'll add that to my signature!

The BBcode isn't working for me, I keep trying to make my questions more noticable in my annoying wall of text since people will probably skim over it silly
