Halberd for pvp?

I was just wondering if anyone uses any variation of the halberd for online play. I noticed that I have rarely seen anyone use it. I was thinking of making a new build to use this or a claymore, but I would love to here any opinions on strategies for its moveset and just in general if people like using it for pvp, thanks!

I fought some guys at kiln using a fire gargoyle halberd and seems to be somewhat effective. Basicly all they did was to dodge and do the roll attack. The good thing is that is quick like a scythe and it has a good range, however, I think they don't have a good scaling

i got my *** kicked by a reg halberd once, he was good and had awesome timing, try it.

Yes, the Gargoyle Halberd is the most used and most effective of all halberds, excluding the Black Knight Halberd, maybe.

I've never used it. I've never really used a halberd during PvP.

On my new faith build I might try doing +15 divine since I'm going 50 faith and not so much on dex or str, unsure of the scaling for it though.

scaling is not that good but you can always buff, buff is always better than devine or occult.

Be aware that most attacks with the halberd (or g halberd) are serious backstab risks due to the weapon's miss animation and its low poise damage. I've never once been killed by a halberd user except when I fell off the rafters in Dark Anor Londo (doh!), and I don't consider myself a top notch pvp'er.

When I have fought people who used the Gargoyle Halberd, they tended to spam the R2 attack, which made them very easy to kill.

I don't like how long the attack animation goes on for after you actually make contact, You'd think for it not being that heavy of a weapon it would be a little quicker, but that might be because of my low dex? I will have to try using it some on my dex character and see.

I use it for Jolly Coop, and naturally there are invaders, I'll just say that folk underestimate it.

I use a +15 halberd does bout 500 AR with STR and DEX at 40 Its usefull because of the one hand power attack if someones attack bounces of your shield you can retaliate with a nice swing

It's a crossbreed between an Axe and a Spear. The only downside is the stagger from the axe side, and in some cases the large arc it needs. Other than that, hammered are useful. Very useful. Areas such as the narrow depths, Capra Demon, or really tight areas is worse than larger weapons. Other times it helps against many enemies, either in an arc or straight line.

The only halberd I used was the crystal halberd to beat Ornstein in my first playthrough lol

The regular Halberd is pretty mediocre for PvP from my experience.

With decent lagg, a halberd can hit you from a mile away. That's a good thing about it

I have used a divine Gargoyle halberd a fair bit, I struggled for a while until i worked out that it is best used as a counter attack. Stay at a distance then attack just after they attack, if they get close, the 2 handed R2 hits them twice and is a fair chance of causing a stunlock. I didn't like the roll attack but the Running one was very good when there was a bit of lag. I actually ended up having more success with that than anything else I have used so far

Well I started a new char and at level 40 went into the forest with it last night, I only had it at plus 4, but I did fairly okay with it, I was actually able to stagger some people (although everyone was low level so definitely lower poise.) But I did fall to about 2 backstab deaths when I got aggressive and missed my r2 attack. I think if I didn't suck that I could do alright with it.

My faith build uses a gargoyle halbred and I hit hhhaaaaarrrrrrrrddddd. Extremely long range and I actually like the movesets.

If I remember correctly the first R1 is a horizontal slash followed by a vertical attack. I like to bate people in with the first R1 then follow up with the second since they try and move in for a strike.

Was in Duke's Archives last night and lots of people were using halberds. Saw 2 BK halberd guys, one gargoyle, and believe it or not 4 different people using regular halberds. One common observation was that they were only ok in 1v1 PvP, but if it was a 2v1 the halberd was awesome at controlling the battlefield and at punishing invaders that got tangled up with someone else. Saw people DGWR roll into halberd sweeps, get hit by dead angle swings around corners, etc.

bk halberd is nice... but it really doesn't stagger well... guy with painting guardian armor with wolf ring didn't stagger with the r2....
