There's probably a lot of topics like this going around, or maybe it's just me, but I use the target shield, and land nearly every parry, but I never get the riposte, I just hack them to pieces with my bandit knife, I've watched videos but can't quite pick it up. Any pro tips?

Re: Riposte help
You can't do it as fast as in Pve. Give it a little pause after the parry, use this time to position yourself closer to them (and in front of them if you're somehow on their side).

Re: Riposte help
Are you trying to attack instantaneously after the parry? If you are, it won't work. You need to get them with at least half a second break between the parry and the riposte. Works every time for me.

Re: Riposte help
After the parry, align yourself in front of the opponent and r1.
The mistake most people make is that they lift their shields before riposting. So it cancels out the riposte into a regular r1. Same principle with backstabs.
Also, after a riposte if you 2h your weapon or switch weapon, make sure the animation is fully completed before you riposte or it'll just be another regualr r1.

Re: Riposte help
Off topic, but with my +5 bandit knife, do you think I would do more damage now (I'm farming as a forest invader) if I just hack them to bleed instead? I've got the hornets ring on (I'm SL25, don't judge)

Re: Riposte help
Take a chill pill, calm yourself step up and do the business. Always mess it up myself, i get buzz when i parry and end up screwing it up.
As for more damage at sl25, take trip down to blight town, get green titanite shards, go to vamos in the catacombs and fire+5. At sl 25 It will do a lot more with low dex. IF you don't like the catacombs early on like me, bring a bow and use kick alot.

Re: Riposte help
Automancer, is that just for 2H, or all ripostes?

The damage will be negligible at best. Stick with the criticals or bleed if you have the chance.

Just when 2h and when you switch weapons.
Only times i've ever missed a riposte is when i suspect that i won't land the parry so i kinda commit myself into failing. I once parried a guy 3 times in a match but missed all of em.

Off topic: I'm having trouble landing the Zwei, does anybody know the timing?

Re: Riposte help
In PvE, should be roughly half a second. Also, contrary to what the descriptions say, the Small Leather Shield actually has the best parry times available. You can riposte nearly instantly.
In PvP, give it about a second, then go directly in the middle of your target, and r1.

Re: Riposte help
Parry timing with the target shield? No. Why answer then? The zweih is a dead angle machine, trying to parry it isn't really a good idea unless the opponent sucks (in which case you don't really need to parry anyways, roll bsing is safer)

Re: Riposte help
using a target shield to parry the zwei is noot a good idea just rollbs or use their recovery time against them.

Re: Riposte help
It is possible to riposte immediately after you parry, you just need to get used to the timing.
For now, you should take everyone else's advice for waiting a split second to reposition yourself, but after a while it will become muscle memory and you will be able to do it like in PvE. (While still compensating for lag)

Re: Riposte help
you could get someone to help you train with them using the weapon you want to learn, plus it is easier to parry a weapon you have used yourself.

Re: Riposte help
i tend to be a bit on the spammy side due to lag, so many times it goes -> L2 (parry activates), L2 (does nothing as opponent is already bouncing back), R1 (riposte). seems like the ideal timing^^.
if i like the fight and am not behind in hp i walk around them after a parry and do a BS for less dmg, large club tends to end matches really quickly with a riposte^^
