Another member, who due to the forum rules will remain anonymous, but is very welcome to share her interesting opinion with us, outlined that owning and playing any game, bar none, is a 'gamer'.
This was a little interesting to me, I'd always thought the line was further away than this. I'd think "a 5 year old who gets given a DS and Nintendogs to play, to me is not a gamer", similarly to if a person who plays solitaire on their laptop cus they're bored are not, however to said other person, they are.
I think personally the line should be further away, despite the fact gamer is a rather broad term, and to me is more of a social stereotype (in line with nerd, stoner, chav etc), than it is just a description of a single interest..
To me, in the same way as the examples above, just watching the star wars films and enjoying them doesn't make you a nerd. Occasionally playing a bit of football in the park doesn't make you sporty. Owning a guitar doesn't make you musical. Hence, playing one game (or even a few), doesn't make you a 'gamer' as such, just that you dabble a bit.
