Dumbest stuff you've ever done (that's humorous in hindsight) Empty Dumbest stuff you've ever done (that's humorous in hindsight)

Post by PlasticandRage Mon Mar 11, 2013 3:30 pm

I just came home from running some errands, and almost did something at the gas station that reminded me of something I accidentally did a few years ago. At the time it was super embarrassing, but looking back on it now it's actually pretty funny, so I thought I'd share it with you guys, and maybe hear some others at the same time.

So a couple years ago I was on my way home from school after a night class. It was right around final exam time, so I was under a lot of stress and hadn't been getting a lot of sleep. I'd been on campus the entire day, and was on my way home around 9 at night. I stopped at the gas station to spend the last $5 I had until pay day on gas so I could get home. I got out of my car, put the nozzle in my tank, and started to try to pump, but the woman in the station was new and didn't know me and knocked on the window to come in and pay first, being that I stopped at that gas station almost every day it was out of the norm that they'd make me prepay. Anyway I went in, waited in line for about 15 minutes, finally paid, then went back out, got in my car, and drove away, completely forgetting to get gas. As I was pulling out I thought I heard somebody yelling, but didn't look around to figure out why. So I get back out on the highway and people are flashing me with their brights and honking at me, so I pull over not knowing what was going on. I'd been dragging the nozzle, and about a 10 foot length of the gas tube, which I'd ripped off the pump when I drove away forgetting to get gas. Granted I was really tired, and got distracted by breaking my routine, and then having to wait in line forever. Anyway I had to drive all the way back to the gas station to give them their gas nozzle back, and then, as if it couldn't have possibly gotten worse, I had to go in and ask them for my $5 back because I hadn't pumped any gas and couldn't get home without it. Not my finest moment.

Yeah, evidently they're designed to detach at the ends so that nothing ever actually rips if it's pulled too hard. So I just detached the whole tube and drove away with it. The real damage was to my ego when I had to go back in to ask for my money back.

Most of the people who were in there thought it was funny, but the people who worked there weren't laughing.

What's with the prepay? Where I live we never do that. Either you pay at the pump with a card or after with cash.

I'm not sure. Most places here you have to everywhere after dark, but most of the people who worked there recognized me and knew I got gas there a lot, so they just let me pump first.

I couldn't fill up because nobody there knew how to reattach it. That was part of the reason they were so mad at me. It's a pretty small station. They only have 2 pumps, and I put one out of commission for the night, which meant they'd have a lot of angry customers waiting in long lines for gas.

I have a good one to make you feel better:

So for some reason we had one of these old things in the house when I was sixteen. By that age I was mostly grown (except for about 40 pounds of weight) and I have pretty large feet (US size 12).

My brother and I were fooling around with this thing kinda laughing and joking. Note: I was wearing sneakers, making my large feet gigantic. I had the bright idea to see how far I could stretch the springs. My feet which were barely in the dang thing weren't on enough to hold it down. Up it goes.....right into my face.

I do the usual bend over and hold my nose. My brother asks me if I'm alright. I check my hand after a couple seconds for blood, thinking I at least gave myself a bloody nose (I was seeing stars from a nose impact). Seeing no blood and not being in a lot of pain I say, "yeah"

Then the Elevator Scene from The Shining kicks in. It literally looked like my hand (still directly underneath my nose) and floor got smashed by a water balloon filled with blood. I calmly (somehow) state...."maybe not."

I pinch my nose shut and head to the bathroom and see a VERY crooked nose, swelling rapidly. I call out to my mom in the kitchen. A little tangent here, she was only two rooms over from where the incident happened and heard nothing to tell you how calmly we reacted for some reason. Anyway, I call out...."Hey mom, I think my nose is broke." Alright....Now reread that sentence again. But this time out loud and pinching your nose. Hysterical.

She screams "WHAAAAT?" and runs in. Sure enough I broke it. Now, ordinarily most people are more than satisfied breaking their nose by separating the cartilage from the bone. Not me. I actually broke the bone right at the skull to the point where it's still leaning to this day.

I came pretty close. I've got a lot going on today, and I was screwing
around with my phone while I was pumping gas and started to get back in
the car before taking the nozzle out.

^ As soon as I opened that picture I said "Oh no" out loud. Those things are dangerous. The ones you use with your hands are too. The ones with the big springs that you stretch out with each hand.

I was in junior high, so the thinking part of my brain wasn't activated yet. We were standing in the gym during the last 10 or so min. of PE waiting to leave. I was holding my uniform. I decided to make a basket with my shorts. I threw it into the basket, and it got stuck. Then I decied to get it out by throwing my shirt at it. That got stuck to. Then I threw my shoe at the basket to get my clothes out. It bounced off of it a few times, but it finally got my clothes out.

This one wasn't stupid, but it was a little embarising. We were doing a Spanish skit in Spanish class, and it was dark. The only light that was on was a lamp. I triped over the cord and broke the lamp. Luckly I didn't get in trouble and we still got a high score.

Prepay for gas is quite common around here at least, Reece.

As for most embarrassing moment, well, there are a lot , but one would have to be after getting so very drunk and "relieving" myself all over the grille of a fellow student's pick-up truck. Luckily nothing came of it but the owner of the car was exiting the dorms just as soon as I was finishing up. I was too drunk at the time to be embarrassed but the fellow was uncomfortable owing to me and my friends laughing at him as he made his way to the car. I don't think he ever did put 2 and 2 together.

I don't do that sort of thing anymore.

The dumbest thing I've ever done was go swimming in a pool without sunscreen...for 9 hours....in 112 degree weather....which resulted in a 3rd degree sunburn over 80% OF MY BODY!!!

I litterally had these little boils pop up all over my arms, legs, chest and face that got filled with Lymph...it was pretty *** disgusting.

I had to take off school for a week because I was literally in agony every time I tried to move.

I'd post pictures...but I assume you guys would like to not vomit over your keyboards.

The first big mountain that I climbed, the one that got me into mountaineering was Mt. Ranier in Washinton. My climbing buddies and I were too inexperienced to know that in high altitude climbs you have to wear sun protection. We wore sunglasses to protect from snow blindness, but nothing else. What happens is the sun reflects off the snow, and that's generally what burns you. We all woke up the next morning at Camp Muir, which is the high camp on that mountain, with what's called sun poisoning. All of our faces were swollen to really odd shapes. We kinda looked that guy from that Cher movie "The Mask," and what we really didn't prepare for was, since the damaging rays come from below, and we were all breathing through our mouths from climbing, so we all got severe sunburn on the roofs of our mouths. So painful.

Well, that is a logical explanation I wasn't expecting. When I pant, I go bright red, and look like I'm holding my breath, when, in reality, I'm just keeping my mouth shut, and breathing very heavily out of my nose.

I'm very clumsy, so finding an embarrassing moment isn't hard.

When me and my ex were still together, i once tried being "romantic", so i pulled her up and carried her into our room just for fun.

Note 1: She's taller than me.

Note 2: My door doesn't like tall people.

Her head bumped into the side of the door, and as i reacted, i managed to have her head hit the door a second time.

    Success! Joy
