Not as good as iron flesh but still good.
It's decent although you'd want to be halfways decent to counter bs's and you're screwed if you come up against a magic user.

Remember, iron flesh makes you super slow which could be your downfall to some bosses. Its protection is good, but I would recommend staying away from it.

Power within is amazing for boss fights, so you should use that. I still say no iron flesh, especially while going through the areas. It will take you forever and most of the enemies are easy.

Honestly I don't think it's that good anymore. Before the nerf the defense was godly. It's like I told my friend, "You can't move, but you don't care because you're almost invincible." Now I take a lot more damage when I use it.
Example: The huge mob in the Parish.
Pre-nerf: I took almost no damage. My health bar barely moved.
Post -nerf: I lost about 25%, maybe a little less, of my health, and I was wearing the same armor.
Also, there used to be a little post on the Iron Flesh's page explaining how badly it was nerfed. I think it said the guy wore some heavy armor and fought the 4 kings with Iron Flesh on NG. After the nerf he did the same thing with a new character, but he wore better armor. He took 50% more damage then he did last time.

If you happen to miss iron flesh, you can use Havel's Shield L2, same effect, less slowing
I don't know if it is as effective though

Havel's Shield buff gives infinite poise, and anyone that directly hits you has their weapon bounce off of you (as if they don't meet the requirements for the weapon). It does not reduce damage. It's extremely nice if you want to trade hits or poise through a hit to backstab. Also, it does not slow you down at all. The only problem is the MASSIVE weight of the shield.
Iron Flesh gives you some defense and some poise, but slows you down as if you are TWoP'ed, and for a longer duration.
