Is the BKGA still looked down upon? Empty Is the BKGA still looked down upon?

Post by Dubscythe Sun Mar 24, 2013 2:41 am

Now I've been wanting to get into PvP for some time now, so I figured a standard strength build would be a nice way to start. I've always been a bit of an axe guy, so I wanted to inquire about the BKGA. Is it still looked down upon as sort of a noobish jerk weapon, or would it be something decent to try as I try to get into PvP?

Everything is considered a noobish jerk weapon when you kill someone with it.

Don't worry about it, just use whatever you feel like.

Please be that BK Great Axe Master that we all have been waiting for...
    Axe away...

Honestly, other than Hornet and TwoP "looking down" on something is kind of "looked down on " lately...
    Whining all the time...bah!

If people just look down on you simply because of your weapon, then their opinion isn't worth anything. It is how you use the weapon.

Make any build you want. Play fair. Don't gank. Simple recipe (IMO).

EDIT: forgot to answer your question. Yes, the BKGA is looked down on by some people. It is a great weapon, but was used too often in gank squads. Now, it has a stigma. Ok, now go back and read my first 2 paragraphs. LOL.

It's a good weapon, possible not the easiest to get to grips with for PvP but I respect your choice to try it out- if you practice and master it you'll be a powerful force.

Timing and mobility would be crucial with this weapon- do you have any idea for a build incorporating it yet?

BKGA is looked down upon as a typical gank weapon along with the zapphander.

However, it's really a devastating weapon. Very good speed for its damage and weight, only annoying thing is its move set.. Using anything except r1 is pointless.

But it hurts, it dead angles, and owns so sure, why not use it.

It's not necessarily still looked down upon from the community as a whole like it used to be. You shouldn't worry about it anyway, but I doubt you have much to worry about.

Well since I'm doing my first PvP build which will most be for practice it's not going to be very streamlined, probably a 40str/40dex build so I can try a bunch of different weapons. I was thinking of a pure Str build at first but I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with the remaining points.

Instead of 40/40, you can save a lot of points by going 28/40. You can 2 hand most Str weapons and still get proper scaling from them. Plus you can use the heaviest of Dex weapons, the Murakumo.

That's the thing though, I have no idea where I would put those extra points.

This simple recipe has a deceptively complex ingredient—few people agree on what is fair.

Re: BKGA Question. Why do you care if it's looked down upon? If you're concerned about ostracism I can tell you that it's not looked down upon enough that you'd have trouble finding people to play with while using it.

    Vitality and Endurance
    Attunement if you want pyromancies

Would you mind sharing your build with us so we can be more specific?

This, all weps and armor are interchangeable as I'll be experimenting a bit.

Pick your equipment ahead of time so you can know if you need more points in endurance, though it'd be best if you didn't need anymore in it. I'd ttake 12 points out of STR, put 10 in VIT, and put 2 in ATT for Great Combustion, Black Flame, or Power Within. But you can easily put those 12 points into a mix of vitality, attunement, or even intelligence for Great Magic Weapon on buffable weapons.

Well I suppose I could do that.

The Black Knight Great Axe is only looked down upon by those that don't deserve any respect anyway these days: As it's incredibly, incredibly easy to parry. It's got a lasting stigma because gankers used to love it is all.

This was my dedicated Black Knight, if you want.

Yes, it's still looked down upon, people who use it STILL use it with Hornet Ring, so people STILL hate it. Unfortunately, your best choice will be to go with a variation of Greataxe and Ultras. Although, you could also try some of the less used weapons, like the club, (normal, not Reinforced). It has a beautiful A scaling with STR, and it stunlocks like a mother with the same poise break as a greatsword.

^It's no longer as bad as it was before the patch. At least you'll no longer be 1HKOed by the BKGA unless they spell swap.

They really did a number on the special thing that was the BKGA, less poise damage than every other ultra weapon and a big ol hurt nerf on it's 2hr1.

I still like it, and use it -> http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=125231970265860063

But it's not as devastating as it once was. I honestly have a billionty more success with large clubs these days

It needed it's poise per hit chopped down because it's faster than every other ultra great weapon by leaps and bounds.

Do you know how much poise it lops off per hit though?

I'd like to test it later, I'm planning on doing a black knight cosplay and it would be good to know for certain. If it's 60 instead of, for example, 53, than it can stun a lotta people it otherwise wouldn't, and it it's 61 poise, it would explain the new "62 poise threshhold" some people have.

    40 one-handed, 60 two-handed.

62 isn't really a new poise threshhold. It's actually an old one from when people thought that medium weapons dealt 31 poise damage, and that therefore you needed 62 poise to resist them. 62 poise will help you if somebody does like running R1 > R1 with a Gold Tracer/Uchi/Spear/Whatever, though.

if ur thinking about a str build, this one is decent. easier to use than a bkga i think.
