Do you level VIT for PvE?

A question that had come to my mind: Do you still level up your VIT in PvE? I have come to realize that most of the time I would go about every playthrough just saying: "Level this, then that" until I say to myself "I should probably go ahead to finish the game and..." before I realize I had already beaten everything and only Gwyn remains.

This whole entire time: The VIT (and sometimes END) stat is untouched. It feels so awkward when you unconsciously don't realize you pass the game without increases 2 of the most principle of stats and you win with minimal HP and barely any Stamina to work with...just because you were more worried about your main stat for the build...

So, do you ever get does moment when you just fly through everything and, before you know it, you practically pass the game without a single point in VIT or END? It has happened to me way too many times...

for me, its always dependant on what kind of build im making, and as to whether i notice any need to during the playthrough, sometimes i find my character getting bashed around abit and notch it up a few points (although it probrably just means im playing badly!) and yeah like you say, sometimes i find myself forgetting all abot it and getting really sucked in to pouring points into other areas, i suppose its a trade off really, and eventually other stats can negate the need for VIT and vice versa

I rarely bother with vit for PvE, it usually doesn't go higher than 20 because I don't need that much for PvE.

i would agree, around 20 is about as high as is needed

42 is the answer.

But not to the question of how much vitality you need.

The answer to that question is 20 for PvE.

depends, if im gonna go with a pure mage/faith i dump eveything in faith/int until i get to whatever i want then dump the rest in vit ssince i dont really touch end at all with thost builds. with melee buids vit is the last stat i touch.

It's not really much different for PvP leveling (most my builds are constructed with PvP in mind) and I usually have my levels mapped out before I start a character.

i do try to map my charcters out, but i always find myself going off on a tangent somewhere along the line

'Pff,' I thought to myself. 'Vit for PVE? I shall instead adorn myself with the finest armours, and bring death to my enemies with the greatest blades in all of Lordran! I shall worry not for my safety, for my mighty greatshield shall protect me!'

Then came NG+.

'OHGODOHGODOHGOD' *splat*


So yeah, am really regretting not having a lot of health now. Being able to survive a second hit from something makes all the difference in the world.

Vit is not useful in later NGs, as you will get killed in two shots by most things unless you have 40 or 50, regardless of your armor

Better to go light and not get hit at all, i need those points for END

To go through PvE? Nope. I can survive with base hp and still manage to get to NG+8. So i'll usually just increase the other stats and once i'm done with PvE, i'll pump the spare souls i have to survive PvP.

Correct, no boss can 1hko you i think. Although i have died with full hp when Kalameet jumped on me. But that was when i had less than sufficient hp.

I always got it up to 18-20 and after that I'd just move to other stats to level up.

So obviously I went with 42.

You can get 1 hit ko'd by bosses, I've seen Artorias's Jump attack finish off a friend of mine who was trying to get through AotA at SL 15. He kept trying to hit him with a Chaos Firestorm and just get smashed by him.


I'm aware that for later NG's it's 1 hit or bust, but there has been many scenarios where I've just survived by the skin of my teeth, and if I hadn't buffed my Vit I'd be dead by then.

Endurance is probably more important mind, thinking about it. Getting the right weapons on without becoming Fat (or med) I can see being an issue.

a little off topic but, who the heck makes a character for pve?

dont get me wrong i have a couple characters i left at lower levels so i can help people on occasion, but even those toons are still built for pvp.

i have never once intentionally made a character and been like "well this guy is only going to pve." never.. not once. never will happen

but on topic i would have to say No, because like many people who have done SL 1 runs it is evedent that once you are geared properly and know how to roll then your vit becomes irrelevent.

So if i were to ever make a pve character they would probably stay at or very close to base vit.

My thoughts exactly. I usually make an elemental weapon, and put all points into vit and end. I usually finish the game around sl 30-40 and save the rest of the leveling up until I beat the game.

The only time I wouldn't level up vit and end, is if I was making a no-low poise build, or a glass cannon.

Besides, pyro will almost get you through the entire game.

the majority of the dks community actually, pvp'ers are in the minority and it's the pve community that keeps dks alive(invasions). i can't believe the pvp'ers still think that people got this game to invade or duel. i have about 5 people in my friend's list that do pve only and coop. in all my time coop'ing very few of the people ive tried to help with their build actually wanted help(about 20%) the rest told me that they didnt care about that since they only do pve or coop.

Generally I do tend to increase VIT but not hugely, most of my higher level PvE toons have around 1000-1200hp. I do think it's pretty important to have at least 800hp whatever the case, it will just help you survive a little bit better if you are invaded and against the tougher bosses.

For my darkwraith build I'm always happy to come up against opponents with low VIT, it makes most invasions far easier. I have recently invaded several people in Oolacile and the Duke's Archives who had less than 700hp and as such were very vulnerable to standard PvP tactics.

look at the number on people on the wikis and the pvp videos then compare it to the people that actually bought the game, that should give you an idea of the percentage of the people that pvp(duels) and the people that dont care about that and just wanna play the game, yeah its not 100% i know but it gives you an idea of it. i was taknig about duels btw, also not a lot of people host for duels either, just look at the number and if you still dissagree, even after what i said about me coop'ing then i dont know what to say to you.

Regarding the underlined:

I agree completely. I wasn't sure what you were suggesting. Most people do not buy or play Dark Souls for dueling, a lot do, but not the majority.

Thats why I said I wasnt sure if misunderstood your statment. Most people buy Dark Souls for the online play, which a vast majority of the time includes pvp in some way shape or form.

PS-I do think however the vids on youtube and the comments in a forum are not entirely reflective of the community. Besides, the number of games purchased also includes people who bought the game for some sort of pvp and simplydo not play anymore.

However your point stands, most people playing DkS are NOT active duelers. Its a shame, but its true.

PvE I usually go with 20. If I'm going anywhere above NG+2, I'll go with 30, if I'm going for NG+7 or higher I'll go with 40+RoFaP.

Most of the normal bosses can't OHKO you, but the DLC bosses were not made with this in mind. All of them can OHKO somehow with base VIT. I'm pretty sure the only bosses that will OHKO at base VIT are Stray Demon/Demon Firesage (fire attacks), and Gaping Dragon (if he eats you).
