    Preferably free?

    I've been thinking of making games since forever, and I think I may finally pick it up as a hobby. I was thinking of starting with a castlevania: Symphony of hte night sort of game (Though naturally no where near as well made, naturally).

    Also, any tips for that sort of thing?

    Like, for making them or implementing them into a game? Because if you're just making them you could use MS Paint.

    Yes, for implementing into a game silly

    Probably Game Maker, you have to have them in order to implement them.

    there will not be any good ones for free but you can spend around 40$ and get some really good software

    For spriting, I cannot recommend GraphicsGale highly enough. It's free, full-featured, and pretty easy to use. It's awesome.
