What was Seath the duke of? Empty What was Seath the duke of?

Seriously, we know he is a duke, but where of? What country, exactly, is his duchy?

I think it was either Vinheim (for obvious reasons) or Oolacile. The Oolacile connection is basically just his golems containing Dusk and the pendant, as well as their focus on sorcery (Remember the theory that Dusk is Priscilla's mom?).

But, that's my random theory. We really do need to start more random lore discussions.

If I had to choose I'd say Vinheim. But his origin title is irrelevant by the time our character enters Lordran (as his demesne is the Archives) so I guess that's why it was mostly left out.

after helping the lords to kill his own kind, the everlasting dragons; seath was given a piece of lord gwyns soul as a token of gratitude. He also bestowed the title of Duke (or concubine) to seath granting him the archives as his personal domain. being allowed to persue his research on the scales of immortality.
on an off note if you stand in front of the anor londo palace entrance, looking back into the mountains where the archives are, you can see a fortress on the top of the cliffs. being the archives themselves. suprisingly just noticed that while playing yesterday.

Maybe he wasn't exactly the duke of anywhere. It could be that Gwyn simply gave him the title for its power. A duke is pretty much one notch below the king right? Maybe Seath didn't gain any land to personally rule over, but he could still use his title to get what he wants. He desired knowledge, and he clearly got plenty of that.

The most obvious choice would be Vinheim

Probably, since Vinheim is called the Dragon's Academy. Probably he built the order of Vinheim in the age of fire.

Historically to be a duke you had to rule a duchy, which could be independent or subordinate to a larger kingdom. It is a system confined to medieval Europe however and for modern dukes it is just a title given and nothing more.

I thought modern dukes just had their title through heredity. As in, they are still rulers of their duchy, but it no longer has any power, or any real holdings.

Well if he is the Duke of somewhere it doesn't really matter anymore since there's not really anyone in charge of Lordran anymore.
