Why all the Spear Hating???

Why do PvP players hate when other people use spears? My current PvP setup involves Brass Armor with Ninja Helmet, Crest Shield and Dragonslayer Spear. I have no magic except for a few healing miracles, which I never use until I win the fight. Almost everybody I faced the other day sent me a message complaining about me using a spear. One person was even spamming magic and running away to heal, but just because i was constantly in his face and dodging his magic, he said that i had no skill.
Whats the difference if I would spam a two-handed spear attack, or spam magic and/or backstabs and stunlocking? Magic and stunlocking seem far worse than a simple spear.
Is it because a lot of people try to use parrying setups with small rapiers or daggers and they cant get close to me because i have a longer weapon? Believe me, I can still lose a fight as easily as anyone else so i dont understand where all the hate is coming from.
Sorry for the ranting and possible repeat of a previous issue already discussed, but I just want some insight on why spears are so "bad".

Spears are this months gold tracers\dark bead\[insert random weapon here], although i do suspect it could the rapier pokey pokey builds that are giving out, seen a lot of them recently.

I seriously mean that, I *** -hate- spears. They are the least skilled weapons in the entire game. Dragonslayer Spear is OP, Demons and Moonlight are borderline, and as a weapon class they are annoying and stupid to fight against. Whenever someone pulls out a spear, I hate them with a vengeance.

They are stupid and annoying to fight against, if you want some specific, I'll give them.

Assuming you light roll, you have enough mobility to keep your opponent at the edge of your range 100% of the time. You're far enough away that due to your range, no weapon except another spear is capable of reaching you to kill you. This is made worse by how lag give you a larger hitbox with a spear than otherwise, and you can block your with shield to turtle if deemed neccesary, making you even more difficult to reach/fight. Your opponent has no way of injuring you without being injured themself, and due to the damage rating of the Dragonslayer Spear, the trade they have to take for an opportunity (that they can miss) to hurt you is a lose-lose situation. Unless they are holding a rapier or a spear, from the moment they spawn to the moment they die there is no reasonable way for them to win unless you make a very fatal mistake.

That is why spears are hated.

And dutchy, you're dead wrong with that idealistic statement. Some weapons ARE easier to use then others.

Agreed. Just like certain spells are easier to use then others... And of course I know this, As in I ***** about a lot of things I don't like But on a serious note, what I guess i'm trying to relate this to is dark magic. I mean, it's easy to use, does an average amount of damage. There are counters for it, but there are less counters for it then there would be say a tank rocking Smough's hammer. And, to dispute your other claims, there will always be the number of players that declare a tactic cheap, and a number that will deem it not, it's all about the quantities of players on each side that determines how the major bulk of players see it. I don't think spears are OP, but then again, I don't run into them much, and don't use them much. I would say just chuck a shotel in there somewhere, I'm pretty sure it has infini-stunlock if you get them to that stage.

Spears are not Dark Magic. Spears don't have a counter.
You could genuinely run through literally any spell, weapon, or tactic in the game and I'd be able to tell you why a good spear user wouldn't die to it. The weapon is infalliable.


Dark Magic has flaws where the spear doesn't, and that is why people dislike them.

@Rynn Though I can pull it off with the Chaos Blade as well, the Washing Pole's running attack can hit a DSS user. I know you hate katana running R1's and won't pull one out yourself, but it's still possible to hit them.

To the OP, spears are the easiest weapons to use in PvP. There is no doubt about that, and they are incrediblyhard to counter if the user knows what he or she is doing. Does that justify the hate? Probably not. It's just the way it is.

flipping spear users are just plain annoying. the damage they do when they hit you isn't that impressive but they can seemingly hit you with impunity and you can never hit them thanks to a combination of lag making the DWGR's invincibility frames enormous and the spears phantom range huge.

flipping spear users and faery ear wearing spell spammers make my teeth grind every time i come up against them and those who use both at the same time can die in a fire.

. Lol u hate for sure cuz u know how dangerous a pretty skilled guy can outmatch u. And to the host: ppl might hate spears cuz spears are for them noob weps and the wielder isnt skilled just poke and roll or step back an poke again."coward style" But thats not true it requires accuracy,patience,always an eye on ur oppenents guard and sometimes just smash all the hits aggressivly and ur best def is not ur shield its ur distance to ur opponent.

Honestly, spears are overpowered. If they had their old moveset from Demon's, (like a longer version of a Rapier), so they were slower, they would be fine, but at this point someone can just hide behind their shield and poke you with Silver Knight Spear or Dragonslayer Spear. Another thing, people put on DWGR and just Flip around until they get a chance to attack with their precious Spear, (of which they're 2-handing, as they NEVER get hit with that damn ring on).

I'll see if I can go snatch the X-box and I'll go build a new character.

I can give an easy counter to spears if you are fast rolling.

Composite bow of a fire upgrade with Fire Arrows.

Composite bow of a Divine/Magic upgrade with magic arrows.

Out turtle and out range their spear. It's incredibly boring, but as long as you are patient you will win if you and they are of equal skill. Even if they are a bit better than you the advantage you have is so great that you'll most likely win.

Bows are far more powerful than spears in my book, but bow turtles I find to be less common.

Intsa-blocking and insta-dashing also work well against spear users, but are inctedibly hard to pull off.

True enough, Bow Turtles are the worst, especially if they pluck at you with poison arrows first.

Especially since you more or less will ALWAYS get poisoned by those damn arrow. (Those i-frames just aren't good enough against them, 3 shots and your poisoned. Period).

It's pretty much my way of dealing with people who brag way too much and send me a lot of verbal abuse when dueling, or taunt.

It may be a boring ten minute long battle of me rolling around while they flask from time to time, but they'll die.

And that's a problem. Although I'd prefer they stop nerfing things too, they aren't much better, they are just best.
