Prowling Demon
I try cutting the tail off but I never can, and what is it really weak against anyway?

Re: Prowling Demon
I don't think you can cut off it's tail, but I think it's weak to lightening

Weak to lightning, can't cut the tail off. (Lightning spear miracle obliterates it.)

I absolutely hate those things, I nearly always try to take on from range. In fact, it's the only way I can successfully take them out. Great Lightning Spear + Darkmoon bow = dead demon.

Re: Prowling Demon
For any with enough space I use +15 Black Bow of Pharis, Hawk Ring and Feather arrows. "Ouch....ouch....cut that out....whoever you are."
Otherwise I try to use terrain to my advantage. Hate those guys

Re: Prowling Demon
My all time most hated enemy. The tracking leap attack, the pole sweep and thrust attacks that clip through walls and obstructions (looking at you, Sen's Fortress jerks), the seemingly infinite range lightning, the extremely long aggro range.. oh yes I hate you with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns.
If you have to fight them, black bow of pharis + hawk ring is probably the least stressful. If you approach from behind, it is possible to shoot them in the tail and not aggro them, because the length of their tail gives you just enough space to hit with the bow but be outside their aggro range. The farmable one past the Izalith shortcut is the best example of this. Boring and not quick, but safe. Bring a lot of arrows.
Most other ones can't be snuck up on from behind, so you will still need to worry about incoming lightning blasts if using a bow. Obstructions can help here, such as the trees outside the doorway of the one past the blacksmith in Darkroot, or the pillars and corners in Sen's, or the coffins in the catacombs. You can also lock on at closer range and move back and forth while firing arrows w/o zooming in order to dodge lightning. Just watch out, because you can still get surprised by one of their ridiculously long range leap attacks. As others have said, lightning spears can also be used in this fashion pretty effectively.
If you have to melee them, well don't. But if you really really have to, supposedly you can sort of kite them around by circling on the side where they're not holding the pole. My experience is I usually just get jumped on or staggered and then jumped on. They do so much damage in melee it's rarely worth the risk, plus you often have additional factors that make melee a huge pain in the *** like the tar floor in Sen's or very close quarters where you can't roll well or see what the next attack windup is. Frankly in straight up melee I think these guys are harder than most bosses

Re: Prowling Demon
My favorite one is in Anor Londo in the chapel. I run in an out quick and he comes forward a little bit showing a teeny bit of his hand through the doorway. Close enough where you can use large arrows or a dragonslayer bow to speed up the proceedings. For some reason this one never realizes there's a possibility that somehow, in some way, there may be other rooms than the one he occupies. My first kill was by Andre using the Drake sword two hand R2 attack and using the broken pillars to stop the lightning. In NG+ I discovered you can stand just right by the pillars so you can shoot him while his lightning gets blocked. He does not discover this anomaly at point. On a side note, this also works with most Channelers. Undead Parish pillar by side entrance; Duke's archive #1 left side of doorway, doorway again for #2 and with #3 (upper deck) one level lower, pillars to his left (your right). My bow has saved me from many an annoying battle.

Re: Prowling Demon
That's a good tip about the Anor Londo one. I've owed him ever since he killed me while I was running down the hallway past him by clipping his pole right through the wall.

Re: Prowling Demon
that same thing happened to me >.< Grrr, I was just like WTF. I couldn't believe how many prowling demons there were in Sen's I equipped the Rusted Iron Ring tho so I wouldn't have trouble getting around that horrible section. So far I have ungraded the Demon Spear with the demon titanite (the weapon that thoose skinny gargoyle annoying demons drop) I like it since it also does electricity damage. The reason why I asked if you can cut the tail it's because I know there is a weapon that looks like the one they have you can get, so I was assuming that maybe cutting off it's tail would get me that.befowler wrote:That's a good tip about the Anor Londo one. I took out the one in Anor Londo by killing him from the balcony above. Easy.

Re: Prowling Demon
Nah, they just drop it normally, it's a little bit rare though. Out of all of them I hate the Izalith one the most, I perfer to get in close and wail away with Sunlight Blade, but now I pretty much have to use my Dragon bow to get rid of him...

Did you use arrows? I recall trying that but couldn't get my bow on target while zooming

Re: Prowling Demon
Did he notice you from the balcony assault? I thought about trying that but found the door was really easy and was point blank making any bow a possibility. The catch pole from them is a pretty rare drop. I got mine from the one that respawns in Izalith. I was farming t itanit and got it relatively quickly. I recommend NG for this though as a maxed bow is easy at that point and will shorten the kill time.
So regarding the profane designation of the word "t itanite" I propose we start using the politically correct "breastanite"

I killed that one in Anor from the balcony with a mixture of Sunlight spear and arrows, so yes, perfectly possible to find the angle.

Yeah, it's been a while, but it's possible with lightning spears and arrows. I didn't zoom in, I locked on.

Re: Prowling Demon
I used my Divine Avelyn on the one in Izalith. You have to be patient and keep backing up and not get too close or he'll use that jump attack. Failing that it's pretty easy to get past him if you equip the Ring of Fog and run like hell.

Re: Prowling Demon
I have never taken one out from range (with the exception of Lightning Spear) and honestly think that would be much more boring and costly. All you do is roll when they strike and stay to their broken leg side. You can even block a couple attacks. Bring a friend and it is much easier.
So don't bring some fancy bow and a sh1tload of arrows, go in there and beat him to death like a true Dark Lord.

Re: Prowling Demon
Meh. Their easy. My hammer takes care of them when their in my way. I usually make sure to kill all of them, including the four in Sen's for safety measures. I use a slow melee weapon too.
They key to it is to have a stable shield, such as a balder shield, in NG. in NG+, make sure to learn how to role when it comes to combat. Roling will be your best friend. Role the opposite direction of the swing thou, otherwise you will get it. less than 50% will also make it easier, weight wise.
They are weak to lightning, but they are also vulnerable to fire and magic, and their resistance is not that great. Any weapon that is a club, like a mace or such greater weapons, will pass by all three other physical resistances that are specific to certian weapons. They are usually easier also if you stick by their missing leg if you prefer to block, and the right if you can dodge. Their are not a hard enemy once you learn the patterns and learn how to sync with em.
Just remember to always, always, no matter where you go, to bring the rusted iron ring. All your battles will be easier when you are either water, a swamp, tar, or other form of non-solid. Armor does not really help in NG+ and higher, so dodging will be your best friend.
HINT: I have only used the flipping ring with one character, and he had a spear and a shotel combo. You will be better off by normal dodging in these cases, as the ring only helps if you are 50% or lower, in which you only need the requirement of less than 50%. Just a tip for ya.

Re: Prowling Demon
I find the prowling demons to be pretty easy. just circle strafe right until your behind their right leg and start swinging. The only move they can hit you with is their jump slam attack thing which you can just roll back to avoid.

Re: Prowling Demon
The Prowling Demon in melee isn't hard. You just need to know when to block and dodge. For example, after the really long sweep, he will usually do that annoying jumping attack.

Yes... Rolling backwards is usually the best case. However since if you roll, and an enemy hits you, you receive extra damage... be careful where you role, you will get one shot.

Re: Prowling Demon
They are very easy for me.............
But I have an Eagle Shield +14, 82 stability lol
And now with my high level character I just 2-hand Havels shield (I can use it 1-handed thought) and hit them with it until they die because I'm so manly .

Re: Prowling Demon
If you like to make Melee characters or your out of arrows/spells: One good way is to block his 3 hit combo while staying very close (so he doesn't Jump attack). On the third swing he does a thrust forward, on that thrust do a side step, 2-hand, bash bash bash bash, go back to blocking. Repeat.

Sunbro "arrows" win all day long at range. Though I'll admit it helped that I had Sunbro's greater lightning miracle too.
