Game of Thrones Empty Game of Thrones

Post by Infighter Fri Feb 08, 2013 6:23 pm

First of all I haven't read GRRM novels, but I plan to!

I have few questions. Does the show follow similar plot to the novels? How do you guys remember all the plot lines I find myself struggling to remember some character names and crucial plot moments.

And I heard that GRRM loves to kill most interesting characters say Eddard Stark ( Poor Sean Bean)

And what do YOU expect from S3? I am keen to see Arya's story and how she is gonna (or not gonna) become a faceless man of Braavos

Season one did for the most part, season two sucked big time, there were character missing that were a big part on the second book I kinda hated it.

I liked S2 better than S1. I heard that S2 lacks 2 more battles but I think BlackWater ep makes up for it. I just can't stand Joffrey

I just started reading the second book today. I'm excited to get to the places that weren't covered in the show. The first season definitely followed the first book really closely. The only differences are really small details

In fact the show even added some things that weren't in the book in the first season. Because some of the events were only seen through the eyes of children, you only get some details, as opposed to the show, where you see everything happen yourself

I am guessing minor plot lines of some characters, and maybe few cities right?

^ Even smaller than that. A few super minor characters, like people whose names are only mentioned once or twice, like bannermen that don't really matter except to show that armies are large, and small details like conversations that were never had in the show, that are only there for character development

You should spoiler that Ned Stark thing in your first post. That's a big spoiler and not everyone's read/seen it.

Anyway a perspective example is, in that scene in the book, you get it during an Arya chapter, and Yoren pulls her away as it's happening, so you get only some of the details.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I am coming up with some more majorish characters that I don't think were in the show. I don't remember the Blackfish from the show, and he's becoming a more serious character

Well I hated it because they changed a lot and not in a good way, they ruined the series for me. I recommend not reading the books after the series is over then, then you'll see how much better the books are.

I don't feel quite that strongly about it, but I'm also only 20 pages into the second book. The books are obviously better than the show though. One thing they did in the show that I didn't really like is that they skip over battle scenes that are really in depth in the books

I don't think Stannis' daughter was in the show either actually

It didnt follow the book the way season one did, they chnaged a lot of bran's story line and meera and jojen were not in it at all which are two major charavters in his storyline.

Show its all right. Just imagine this: less action, more naked people.

But overall its cool. As long as Jon and Aria keep doing their job, I'll watch it

I don't know why you can't just take the books and series and two separate things. I find this really annoying and applies to all series made from novels. Just because the tv series isn't accurate or parallel to the books should not be the incentive to hate it.

Won't go as far as saying I hate the series but I agree that the books are way better, once you start reading you get sucked in and can't stop reading.
Season One was ok but the second not so much, for me at least...

I haven't read the books, but one thing the show definitely shows itself to be is very much character and interaction oriented as oppose to action oriented.

I think this coming season is more likely to include more action with the introduction of the white walkers for real, snow's capture and Rob's petulance in marrying that random woman..

One thing I do hope for is a change in the pacing, because frankly the dialogue and scenes in general can be incredibly overdrawn and probably contributes to a reduction in material of the show. Which therein probably alienates fans of the books by leaving out key characters and events.

Another change I'd like is a reduction in the embarrassing amount of nakedness in the show. Frankly I've never bought the whole deal that it 'would have been like that in those days', or that it's at all important to character development (the one exception for me being the season one drogo and callisi scenes). To me it's always seemed like a desperate attempt to get people not interested in the fantasy genre to watch the show, and sometimes even as an apology to the snail's pacing in many episodes

There are no major spoilers for you, just some clarifications on what you've said that have been hidden so others here don't read them if they don't want to. The Story is too big to be spoiled in a handful of quotes. Honestly anyone who's read the books will tell you that what I've put in those spoiler boxes might sound revealing but are actually insignificant.
