Buying the game Empty Buying the game

Post by Satoshi Sat Mar 16, 2013 4:16 am

Hello, I plan on buying Dark Souls soon. Yet I want to create a build that...well...builds my equipment up throughout the game. I need help deciding how I should do this.

For armor I plan on going from:

Warrior Armor > Stone Armor > Black Knight Armor

I cannot decide what weapon I want to use, but I plan on using a straight sword or greatsword.

If I can receive any help for this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Don't try to plan ahead.. your first build should be experimental. You'd be surprised. you'll discover things you'll like that you never thought you would. It's not the same seeing someone do something as doing it yourself. Just buy the game, take it slow, and let the good times roll, like the great Stiffmeister said.

Pretty much exactly what Shindori said. Don't try to plan your character before you've even bought the game, it just ruins the experience of making your own, unique character. When I first played the game, my build was purely experimental, and I learned from my mistakes, and then made a better character. Also, not all weapons are the same. Some Greatswords and Straight Swords have widely varying requirements to wield, scale better with different stats, and some can't be buffed, or only reinforced 5 times. If you're going to plan ahead on such a thing, make sure to know all the little specifics, such as what I explained above. Rant over. happy

Go into the game blind, not knowing anything, because frankly that is the best thing you could do to make dark souls really immerse you.

Seriously, half the fun is figuring the world out, don't ruin it for yourself.

I don't understand players that research how to beat hte game before playing it. Takes all the challenge out of the game. Where to go, what to use, how to build... to me, that is the game! That's the fun, right there.

If you choose to plan ahead thats fine imo. I did it with Demon's Souls (somewhat) and Dark Souls. I watched all of ENB's videos before release.

Personally, I didn't think it took away from the experience, but it is something you really need to consider. They've given you good advice regarding that. Some people dont think about that.

    1) 1st build almost = trash build...there's almost no way around it.

    2) Upgrade you pyro 1st before anything.

    3) No matter how you make your build, at some point, somewhere, you will be at a disadvantage. It is unavoidable.

    4) Always summon Solaire...black crystal a phantom if you have to. If you do, make sure you leave them a present and apologize. You'll understand later.

    5) Join the forest covenant when you can, you'll thank me later.

These are just a couple pieces of advice. I didn't want to give any spoilers, but you clearly asked for some advice.

As far as weapons and armor...

    1) Dont stress about weapons or waste upgrades too soon. You'll find a weapon crutch in Sen's Fortress...if you can get there.

    2) Get the Stone Armor from the Forest, or farm the Balder Knight armor in the Parish.

    3) If you really like planning ahead, get the firekeepers souls early. There locations are here in the wiki.

    4) Get the right of kindling as early as possible. There's an easy way to get it if you research.

I'm hesitant to say anything else. If you want elaboration, just ask.

Again, I'm trying not to reveal spoilers.

GOOD LUCK! cheers And welcome to the forums. Bow

I'm kinda the opposite. I don't like puzzles or complicated games. When I was first playing this game, my computer was next to me and I was on the wiki all the time.

That being said, I really didn't plan too much. I just got in, played, and looked stuff up on the wiki that wasn't completely obvious.

Plus, you need to play the game to know how you want your build to be. You need to experiment and know what you like/dislike.

Here something I told a new souls player
    TIPS (spoiler free):
For your first run I advice not getting the Master Key. It can lead to areas you may not be prepared for yet. Getting key can reward you with better gear early, but can be tricky for 1st timers.

Don't hesitate to summon help from other players!
    Especially Knight Solaire!

Play around with different kinds of weapons & equipment to find those that match your play style. Think of how YOU want to play the game.

    PVP(player vs player): practice, practice

Don't be afraid to explore & have patience. big grin
