ok so im curious how does one hit the player as the get up or when they are on the ground after a parry or bs. because i try a lot and it doesnt worknot to mention i get hit by it a lot. so is it just lag or is it an actual skill? and how does one dodge it?

Timing and range play a big part in that. Black Flame, because of the duration of the attack, hitbox size and range make it very good at that.

They are commonly referred to as "wake up" attacks.

Some common attacks to use on wake up are great combustion/black flame, halberds' R2, Obsidian Greatsword R2, wrath of the gods, and any jumping attack. It's possible to do witu any attack, you just need to learn the timing.

I remember someone once tried to tell me this was impossible. I was like, "Tell that to the players that do that to me." I honestly don't know how someone is lucky enough to not meet someone that does this at least once.

Also, it's just timing. Too soon, and it doesn't do anything. Too late, and it's a normal attack instead of a backstab at least in my experience.

    It's 85% skill, 10% chain BS's, 5% my-BS-animation-cancelled-so-I'll-cast-an-unavoidable-Fire-Tempest.

On a very basic level, you time your attack to either A) hit the guy the instant he becomes vulnerable, or B) wait until he rolls away, then hit him just as he enters roll recovery. You dodge it by being invulnerable at the moment he swings his weapon.

ok so i understand how to do it in theory but what about dodging? Saturday-saint said to be invulnerable but what does that mean? do i roll? do i parry (should they be swinging their wep)? do i stand still? im lost on that.

You can do either. If they try to dead angle, dodge, if they try to chain bs, parry.

As has been said, its just timing. Practice.

Easiest way to dodge is to time it as well. If they're going for a spell (Dark Bead, Black Flame, WoG), roll AWAY from them. If they are going for a chain backstab, roll INTO them. If they are simply going for an R2, guarding works best as you will block anything as long as you hold L1 on wake-up. Although you can also roll out if you don't want to take any sort of damage.

If you're trying to avoid a wake-up attack then yes, you want to roll away. IMO best way to avoid wake-up attacks is to lock on and sit tight. As soon as you see the guy start up his attack, hold back on the analog stick and roll away.

Parrying can work, but properly timed wake-up attacks can't be parried, unless they're going for a chain BS or something.
