Chaos Witch Quelaag
Hi People... I'm a new Dark Souls enthusiast from the UK and I'm loving every minute of my dark journey... Much respect to the creators of this Wiki which has been a huge help thus far! I've currently bludgeoned my way through Blighttown and am now at the bonfire right before Quelaag's domain... Any advice on defeating Quelaag would be much appreciated, also if anyone knows of a good source of humanity near by that'd be great as i've run dry! Unfortunately I have no specialist fire-resistant armour as such although I do have the Dragon Crest shield... I'm level 26 and I tend to favour the Raw Halberd at the mo, but i've gathered plenty of weapons and armour on my travels.... Cheers!

Summon mildred and rush through the fog gate before she appears, queelag won't get the npchealth buff then. try circling her to stay to her side, jab once or twice and jump back in case she tries that aoe. Keep an eye on her when the torso slumps she's about to cast the blast. do not try to stab her in the butt, she's got a pretty nasty fart attack.

Drop a "need humanity" sign or drop your white spoapstone near the bonfire and get summoned, if you help to beat queelag you get a humanity and its good practice as well. That place is usually active for coop(even on pc). Farm the slugs for titanite while waiting.

Re: Chaos Witch Quelaag
Sadly, there's not a lot of Humanity lying around in Blighttown but, if you have the patience, you can farm soft Humanity from killing enemies as you have Quelaag alive in your world.
Your closest hard Humanity, assuming you picked up the ones in Firelink Shrine (I'm assuming you did), would probably be the one in the crevice in the Valley of Drakes.

Re: Chaos Witch Quelaag
Actually, there is a hidden twin humanities item in a chest on the path from Blighttown to The Great Hollow. From the bonfire, turn left and head towards a large tree root leading up from the swamp. At the end of the path will be a chest which contains a plank shield. Roll through the wall behind the chest and you will find another chest that contains the twin humanities. Another secret wall there leads to The Great Hollow and ultimately, Ash Lake.

True, the Twin Humanities would be a lot closer, gives you a free kindle as well.

Don't forget to aim for the human part if you have a ranged weapon, can briefly stun her~ I think you can stunlock her if you get a good rythm going with a bow.

Re: Chaos Witch Quelaag
I defeated her earlier this week without summoning (I didn't want to use up humanity for it). Anyway, I used a lightweight armour, Wanderer or Sourcerer set (can't remember which exactly), so that I could move quickly. Basically would enter her room, run towards and strafe to the right to get around to her left legs. Give them a whack then run off. She'll turn and move towards you again, but keep your distance and keep moving (strafing usually). I found she would do some kind of charge attack or spit lava but it gives you time to strafe around and chop more at the legs (max two strikes each attempt before running away).
If she rotates on the spot to face you (frequent at close quarters, keep strafing for the legs but don't get trapped under them). If she does face you, roll to the side or back before she uses her sword.
Hope it helps.
By the way, I prefer her sister... neeheheheheee

if your not droping your sign to help others and summoning other players to help you on your first play through then you are missing out on one of the things that makes this game so great. at least drop yout sign to help others to learn and aquire humanity and extra souls.

This is what I do, but my main is a Sunbro so I have that working for me.
Typically after I've made it to the fog wall, I put down my White Sign and help other fight the boss before I take them on. This is for a few reasons.
1) I learn about the boss's moveset and abilities without having to worry about death and losing my souls and Humanity
2) I learn where the boss is vulnerable and what stratagies are best for taking down the boss
3) I make friends
4) You get a good amount of souls from beating the boss
5) You get humanity for beating the boss
I would suggest going to Quelaag's fog wall, but place your summon sign and wait. People will summon you, and you will get first hand experience fighting her without having to worry about the downfalls of failure.

The hotspot for signs is at the bonfire.

Re: Chaos Witch Quelaag
It can be both, depending, though the bonfire's normally a better bet.
Blightown swamp is a hotspot for invaders though, be prepared to fight a lot of other people whilst there. Just remember the golden rule of assisting: protect the host!

Its quite the rush to manual aim at a small target on a charging spider woman.
This is a fun one to do with a 3 person team. Even if you don’t cause that much damage you can lock her down so the others can bring the ‘smash’.
You got to hit the human part though and space the shots just right. Little bit of luck involved in standing in the right spot.
As for the close combat strategy, just watch out for that AOE attack.
Always make sure you can see the human part, if she goes all limp, run for the hills or be ready to block if you have a good fire res shield.
Seen a lot of teams wiped out by her AOE attacks when she only had a little bit of life left. Everyone swinging for the fences only to be blown away.
When I was there at lev 30 a while back, at the bonfire was almost constant summons. Farm the slugs for green/normal shards while waiting.
