Straight sword/Faith Build Empty Straight sword/Faith Build

Post by Berethorn Tue Mar 12, 2013 8:28 am

Hi guys, first of all thank you for sharing your ideas, you're of great insipiration for me. been playing greatsword since the first moment i took dark souls and now i'm tired of this playstyle. I guess i'll go for a straight sword (bss i guess). I'm looking for a balanced build, something fun to play and i've created this:

    https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=282338948212862384

Do you think it is good?
    What about the ring choice?
What about reaching 40 in faith, there would be great benefits for this build?
What about the bow? Maybe a Divine Longbow would be better (thinking about the limited number of slabs). What about a Silver knight shield (for the same reason)?

    Praise the sun! cheers

As I am trying to shed my "Scrub" mentality. I would say, with the Swag sword crit, DMB, and hornet ring, landing that backstab or riposte would be a very dangerous move indeed. That's a thought, you might want to trade the baulder shield for something that can parry. Perhaps a hollow soldier's shield? You could then take a few points out of END and invest them in VIT. As for divine bow, I think it's a bad idea because the scaling would be less in the dex (Which you have 40) and more in Faith (which you are less) The split damage as well will leave you feeling underwhelmed. + Black Bow of Pharis is amazing with high dex. I don't think the extra 10 faith would do much for this build but it depends on how much you are going to rely on/ use it.

    Thank you for reply happy
Can't the balder shield parry? I had one and if i'm not wrong it could parry :pirat:
I've chosen the balder because of it's stability/weight (i'm not using stamina regen boost items), is the difference between hollow soldier's 70 stability and balder's 76 that great (in term of stamina drained while blocking)?

I guess that the bow will be Pharis +15 and the faith will stay at 30 then big grin

    Edit:

Weight difference between the two is 0.5 (3.5 against 4), i can remove only 1 point in END if i switch the shields.

I would consider this build OP.

It is a nice build, but i also like to wear matching armor pieces. I can still go in that direction though, like this:

    Isn't it nice? big grin

Why going wolf ring? Wasn't stunlock removed by patch?

No, stunlock is still active. Poise is an incredibly usefull thing to have, though I'd doubt it's effectiveness with fast roll. I normally use fast roll with a fast weapon, slow roll with a slow weapon. I tryed fast roll with slow weapon == Waste of points

Then should i drop hornet ring for the wolf one?
I like the idea of haveing incredibly powerful resposte/bs (the heater shield also helps)!

    p.s.
Claymore+fast roll it's not that bad, i made a build like that. For bigger/slower weapons it's a total waste, i agree.

It does, but it won't boost the buff's damage. It's only useful for non-buff builds imo.

I see, so hornet or wolf? With wolf ring i would get 72 poise, not that bad because it would allow me to resist two hits by all the weapons faster than mine (light weapons and katanas) big grin

32 Poise is enough for tanking 1 katana/spear hit. With HR it works fine I think so I would go HR.

About this, the wiki says that 31 is enough (again it also say that the other break points are 53 and 76, adding "So a poise of 76 will prevent you being stunlocked by a hit from an UGS").
Is it true? I don't realy know, I always made 0, 54, 77 poise builds.

In my opinion, a BSS+DMB+Hornets still isn't all that great, and if you're centering your build completely around it, I can see you getting bs'd a lot if you're going to parry spam for ripostes. That, or smart players will just turtle/avoid you until your buff wears off.

Straight swords are good for tactical fighting, not so much for doing awesome critical damage. If you really want the heavy crit damage, go rapier.

If you really like the BSS and want to implement with faith, then go 40 Dex/30 Fth for WoG and SLB.

Did you even look at the build? big grin
It's 40 DEX and 30 FTH, with WoG.
Can't see the difference between SLB and DMB, since both have one use and i can't have both (kill Gwin, no DMB; am i wrong?). Thinking about this, and because DMB is stronger than SLB, it doesn't seem a wise decision to kill Gwin.
