    Faith build fine tuning.

Post by Forum Pirate on Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:34 am

    http://mmdks.com/1fc9

Now that its done to the best of my ability, I'm looking for broader scale criticism or suggested changes and I'll explain my reasoning.

Its a faith build for a couple reasons.

    1) The arena is faith friendly

    2) GMB will shut down the gangs of casters I'm ganked by.

    3) If I'm fronting the faith for GMB, may as well save the points in str/dex and make faith my damage stat.

I'm using sanctus to augment replenish, and taking advantage of its lowish weight to stop fire damage, in the case of ganks and hybrid casters.

The greatscythe was the weapon of choice for its

    long range

    good damage

    stunlocks

    dead angles

and most notably, the ability of bleed to offset the damage loss from split scaling.

Its divine to maximise the damage by concentrating the bulk of its 504 ar into magic (320), which should yield slightly more damage, on the whole, than chaos at 522, split 280-240 I think.

The armor is tailored specificly to hit the black flame poise breakpoint, while minimising weight

and retaining viable defenses. I'm not attached, If a better option can be provided without significant change to end/hp I'll adopt it.

The spell choices should be easy to understand, though I'll explain if asked. They arn't set in stone, but good reasoning will be needed to alter them.

"Its cheap" is not good reasoning, neither is "Its OP." If anything, OP is what I'm going for.

I'd personally switch flash sweat for a lightning bolt. Pyromancies are easy to dodge and it could help if you had a long-range attack. Especially when people are trying to make space to cast a spell of some kind.

Fair enough. Pairs of gc spemming dex pyros arn't rare, but the scythe R2's might convince them that being that close is not a good idea.

Not to mention that you also have WoG as a close-combat deterrent.

I do. I didn't remember that. They were actually put there mostly to werck obnoxious db spam by both dealing damage and stunning them, so they can't avoid deflected orbs or my follow up bs.

Just for clarity, if this is for arena, why not Great Heal instead of Replenishment? At that magic adjust, Great Heal is going to refill all of your HP and with one extra cast. I've come to rely on Great Heal in the arena.

Its not for the area, its for everywhere.

Replenish is passive though, which means unless I'm dealing with an int build (where gmb will be more useful,) I can use replenish to heal in battle by casting before hand, and considering the low burst damage the build will trend towards longer fights. Replenish gives me a better shot at winning the individual encounters.

Its possible the second wog or flash sweat will be replaced with great heal when I'm in the arena, or that I'll take the hit to vit and bump att for another slot. Not 100% yet, hence the thread.

I always use 1 self buff per duel, and keeping 3 for different situations might be a good idea but at the same time I feel they waste an Att slot when not in use. 61 poise is awesome for the Great Scythe, but I think getting max divine AR is the best choice. 40 Faith feels un-min/maxed. Since Vit is low it's a good idea to concentrate on Replenishment. Attune Great Heal for arena, for outside you might want another WoG or self buff. Divine bow is deadly at 50 Faith, expect 200 damage per arrow. 53 poise shouldn't be s problem now that greatswords can't stunlock, although you'll have to watch out for interruptions. You might want to swap a Demon's Spear or divine Estoc when facing spearmen.

Again, 61 poise (specificly) just was for black flame. A saftey net.

More pressingly, the claymore, mlgs and msgs all have 2h running r1-r1 dead angle stunlock combos, the mlgs especially could tag me with over 1k damage just there, and a cmw msgs might kill me outright. Even unbuffed its looking to hit 700.

Saint mentioned that running attacks seem to deal an extra point or 2 of poise damage, as I cannot confirm it its best to play it safe and hit 55+ so that I don't come up at half hp if I fail a dodge or somebody trades with me.

I'm not concerened with the last 26 ar (though the Mag-adj would be nice) if it will result in greatsword stunlock combos. If people can vouch that the poise damage of greatsword running attacks is 52 exactly http://mmdks.com/1fgx would be an improvement, based on your input.

GMB is not optional, at least in random invasions. It will take a judgement call to cast the right self buff, but dark mage gank squads are just to common to justify going without it if I have the faith.

It's 56 poise to tank running 2HR1. If you are ok with 40 Faith then go for 61 poise, should get you covered from any combo/spam.

http://mmdks.com/1fip A hit to defense, especially magic and fire, but thats what sanctus and gmb are for.

I need the poise though. my magic defense is horrible anyways, I'd rather take 90 extra damage in a hit than be stunned and take a second hit.

Just in case anybody cares, the final build: http://mmdks.com/1gau

The 5 unit allowance means it can use a wide variety of weapons including the GS, uchi, scythe, shotel, estoc and partisian depending on preference. (an odd shuffled point or 2 and using the heater shield can open up the winged spear, claymore, flamberg and alternate halberds.)

GMB/great heal are interchangeable, depending on what one is doing.

WoG will hit like a truck, and at low hp one can swap wolf for the ring of suns first born or RTSR for a potentially game changing boost (if i remember right the sanctus aura will hide the RTSR aura, making a super powered wog hit a nasty surprise, though it should be noted that an active replenish and the RTSR are not ideal partners, making the RTSR powered WoG more viable when GMB is active instead)

62 poise is to avoid both black flame spam and prevent falchion/gold tracer stun locks if one fails to kite such weapons. Elemental defenses are poor, but sanctus and GMB, respectively, cover them.

Pedophile gear or PrEtty Dependant On gear?

It does look stupid, but it took forever to hit that poise/defense/weight ratio. I couldn't afford to get it wrong, its my last BB slot.

    I'm glad you like it.

Try as I might, I (unfortunately) can't see all the angles.

I'm proud of my work, but to deny the possibility of an oversight is arrogance.

Heh, even if you left no stone unturned, the meta would throw you a new curve in a week or so. Take heart in that at least.
