No point to Tanks?
Hey'all. I just recently finished my "Death" themed build, a fat rolling, SL55, with heavy armour, bonewheel shield and gravelord sword. Now I set up a few duels with some friends and others. When it comes to raw physical damage. I thought "Okay, i'm a tank with a sheepton of armour, I should be okay" Lolnope. Instead of getting killed in two hits as I would with my light reaper build, I get killed in three hits. Woohoo! Excellent 10/10 would win again. This has been the case with any physical weapons I have come across, when I hit them, I get about 137 ish damage usually (depending) but I have 1300 something health and they take me down a third of my bar. I carry about 30 soft humanities, and still, they outdamage me. Is there even a point? When I could just as easily be a light and ninja flip around stabbing people? And never take any damage due to iframes? -.- /rant

Re: No point to Tanks?
Dark mask +5, Armor of Thorns +5, Havels gauntlets and Drk Leggings +5, I know this is not "ideal" armour, but it still should be blocking damage

And it is, you took an extra hit. To be a tank use TANK armor

Re: No point to Tanks?
Hahaha, thanks... for nothing... What i'm saying is the trade off I make for using armour i.e slow roll. and a spare ring slot makes the iframes a bit ********. and I'm being outdamaged by people that can fast roll and are my level and have armour as well. What kind of trade off is that?

Re: No point to Tanks?
Having a 'tank' doesn't necessarily mean you do high damage, it means you have higher defence and (generally) more poise.
To be honest, for your death build I wouldn't recommend a tank. Tanks don't really work as well as fast nimble builds at lower levels as you can't build up your endurance and Vit as much, and with a weapon like the gravelord sword you're gonna make a significant stat investment to be able to wield that.
Can you put up your build on mugen and I'll make a couple of suggestions?

Keeping in mind it's a bit of a roleplay build.

Re: No point to Tanks?
Tanks are not possible at SL 55, unless you use lightning weapons. tanks need both poise and they need HP. You were lacking in the poise department.

Re: No point to Tanks?
..There is very little I could do with that, I've made a bit of the compromise and got you down to mid roll, and reduced the poise value...

I have to admit, there's not a lot of breathing room, since you're using the bonewheel shield. All it's actually doing is taking up space, sadly. If you reduced your strength to 24 (which makes virtually no difference to the damage the GLGS does), then you can increase the endurance, which your build desperately needs seeing as it's a melee build...
Here's what you can do without the bonewheel shield (and be a tank)

Re: No point to Tanks?
Its because your armor blows. Its medium armor, not tank armor. Sl 55 isn't ideal for tanks, but I'll give one a shot

Very few things will out damage that club and you've got it in you to eat a bs from most anything (especially at sl 55) and live to tell the tale.

It's a build for a user covenant, he needs a death-like sorta image and probably would like to retain the GLGS

Pouts* But I like the bonewheel sheild. But I guess I can't have the best of both worlds. I tryed making it fire to level it out but it's still terrible

Re: No point to Tanks?
Dunno if it's been said before but you're trying to tank things out with medium armor. That'd be like a literal tank that was made out of some cheap plastic instead of steel.
Aim for midroll.

Re: No point to Tanks?
I'm not sure what you expected but armor isn't as good as you might think, especially without a bucketload of health points behind it.The only way to really tank is to stack health and poise up to the roof.Even if you had 2508HP and full giants minus the helmet,a guy with DMB could still probably still kill you in 3 or 4 hits. The only time you should take a hit is if you are in mid swing, hopefully you can stunlock the guy and have your way with him then.

Re: No point to Tanks?
As an owner of a super tank that wins 90% of his fights, I gotta say that tanking is almost unfair how good it is. You're just doing it wrong if you think otherwise.

Well Iron Flesh wouldn't help at all since it doesn't increase defense. It just makes people bounce off. So...if he dies in 2 hits then...you know.

Re: No point to Tanks?
I've hit people who had it and only did one or two hundred damage as opposed to four hundred like normal.I've never used it though so I wouldn't know.

Re: No point to Tanks?
Iron Flesh was nerfed from reducing 80% of all damage to reducing 50% of all incoming damage. It technically doubles your survivability against +15 weapons, but it isn't effective against elemental.
