    What are points for?

Post by User1 on Sat Mar 09, 2013 5:50 pm

I've noticed I don't get as many points as I used to, and my posts far succeed them. How do you gain points, what do they mean, and how easy is it to get them?

According to Dough, creating a lot of threads gets you points.

From what I remember from an old post by one of the admins, points were originally meant for a sort of on-site minigame section where you could play flash games in your browser at the cost of points, though this idea was scrapped. You built points by posting, creating threads, being quoted by other people, as well as naturally gaining 1 point a day since you joined the forums. However, anything that happens in the Off-Topic section will not grant any points. What this results in is that the only thing points are useful for is getting an approximation of how often a person posts in off-topic as opposed to in the main threads (posts > points = off-topic poster, posts < points = doesn't go to off-topic much).

I think, because you spend a lot of time here in the off-topic, your posts don't count for much. Anywhere else and your game. I have at least 250 more points than posts. I remember back in August, I had around 90~ posts and 400 points. I have no idea why. silly

800 posts and 1400 points? Why, I never realized how dedicated I have been!

    1 point per day you're a member
1 point per non off topic post
3 points per non off topic thread
    1 point per friend

I should save this in a document somewhere the amount of times it gets asked.

It seems that someone else spends more time than me in the Off-Topic section. I'm scared of your posts to points ratio.
