Its one of the top three items in the game. At +14, it has 82 stability, and it only weighs 6 and requires 16 strength. Its makes my **** rock hard. Thats how good it is.

Fantastic in pve, but trash in pvp. IMO, in pvp, shields need to be a parry risk and/or protect you from everything. The eagle shield does not provide adequate magic or fire protection, and you can't parry.

Yep, it's great for PvE, but for PvP you may want to use a more specialized shield to counter your weakness, like using Crest Shield if you're weak to magic. There is a lot of people who use their weapon 2-handed so they use the Grass Crest Shield, it gives stamina regen, good for more attacks and dodges.

it's very good, lightweight and has high stability when upgraded, probably best all round shield on the game in my opinion.

I love it more because the stability Saved my *** in my first playthrough, but yeah that too 8) Think it would be very cool role playing using that, DS spear and standard helm, look just like a centurion

The best shield, imo, in the game for stability in relation to its weight category. Has 84 stability at max upgrade.

For a non-strength build, it's the best one in the game, for all the reasons everyone posted above. If you have a strength build, another excellent shield is the Greatshield of Artorias, which is made with Sif's soul. It only takes 34 strength to wield it, and has 88 stability, with fantastic fire defence. It's also easy to upgrade, since it takes twinkling titanite. Not as good as Havel's, but takes less strength, if you're making a hybrid build. A cleric with 34 strength can be a good build (maybe not for PvP), since you can wield big weapons, but still do some decent casting.

Agreed. But they come in handy on the first playthroughs, until you're familiar enough with enemy placement, their move sets, and how to dodge and parry effectively.

Crutches are good until your bones are strong enough to carry you.
But yes, ditch shields as soon as possible. Especially ones that can't parry.

Are you using the DWGR? In pve it's hard to go without shield, especially without that ring.

Well I started to use a mail breaker for parrying in pvp, but I was asking about how good it was in pve, thanks for the feed back everyone, I'm off to play some Rock band 3, and move from 6% in the world.

If im pve im rocking the gold serpent(need lots of drops to stock the store up) and that hornet ring. Slow roll is enuff.
In pvp depends on build. some use dwgr others dont.
