    The Do's and Don'ts?! Empty The Do's and Don'ts?!

Post by Delvanoc Tue Mar 20, 2012 1:28 pm

Just curious to all those pvpers out there what the do's and don'ts of honorable pvp are?
I just started playing recently (loved DeS) and would love to pvp with honorable intentions. Also, how is the lag situation in pvp? I sometimes get lag when helping others but pve lag is not nearly as bad as when it happens in a pvp situation.
Thank you in advance for the responses.

    1) Bow

    2) Don't fish for back stabs

I think that's really the only two you should abide to unless your entering organized PVP fights.

Rule #1: No matter what you do someone will complain about it, so do exactly what you want to do.

I'd say avoid the use or be very strict on how much you BS (i rarely BS unless they're just asking for it), a lot of the time i don't BS unless the opponent does, but if he's wearing hornet's ring then you might not get the chance to riposte.

Bowing is big, but you'll know that from demons

stuff like spell spamming too i prefer to keep a lid on too.

turtling behind a shield is also kinda cheap (i mean with a rapier or spear poking from safety)

A big DO of PvP is have some sort of unique sense of armour usage. I'm not saying it's necessary, but people think different things of guys invading in something mixed/matched which looks decent or hilarious compared to full giants and a mask.

This is what i recommend to do to avoid hate mail, if you do that then obviously people think you're honourable, though to be honest the most important ones are bowing and not taking the piss with usage of BS.

Also, remember that there is a time and place for honorable PvP just as there is a time and place to invade or defend relentlessly. Both have their spots and both can be very rewarding.

I do not agree that when you duel a random person you have to abide to the no BS rule, you can even BS him with hornets. You just need to bow before and after the fight, if he buffs do not attack him while buffing or using grass or whatever at the beginning, do not
get help from others, in random pvp a duel is just an agreement to fight 1v1 with no cheap
    shots is what I believe.

oh god here we go again silly

yesuurd, while i think you make a good point with the simple bow before and after with allowing buffs, i don't think it all there is.

If I bow, then buff and guy BS me, is that not cheap? is letting me bow and buff then chain BS me not cheap? How about combustion/WoG spamming?

Frankly cheapness is subjective. Even just the guy bowing back to you means *** all in Dark, you can get insta hornet's BSd and then bowed too after. I don't find this honourable, but the other player might.

To be honest though I stick with the safe option. If you want to be as honourable as possible, trying to avoid using any techniques that can cause frustration is what i think should happen. BS i think is fine, but i limit myself, i don't fish or chain but only punish, but many things cause frustration that can easily be not used such as turtling, magic spamming etc.

I would just like to add that if its honorable pvp you want, a clean duel, then dont heal!

Thats probly one of the few things that annoys me, when a host first act like its a honest duel then as soon as their hp is low they use their estus/divine blessing.

how could all of us forget healing? :|

Now if i'm having a 1on1, if i see estus i don't punish by BSing, I just run to a safe distance and black crystal out in protest. Hopefully some people get the message.

Weird. Even when I get invaded I won't heal (except before the fight starts) and if the invader uses a humanity or miracle to heal I let them. It would never occur to me to complain about it.

Ahh yes I forgot about healing, good point!

    @Serious

Let's make it simple, everyone has different opinions on cheapness etc...The no healing
and letting the guy buff, not attacking while he is not prepped I think are global and not
    getting help of course.

After that then we have this grey area in which both parties would have to agree on what is cheap and what is not, and you my friend which I respect and enjoy, seem to many times inject your own personal perspective as a global constant and forget the general public with some issues.

Same as FC, that's why they are polling over there.

Don't you agree with me that in random duels there are no real constant rules other than
these that have been stated before?

I don't know if my comments could sound conflictive, so beforehand do not take them in
any negative way and please respond with your opinion as we always have our discussions.

(Btw yes I agree on your response in full context)

    Thanks.

I don't bs at all, fights are much more fun when it is just weapon skill and not some laggy 1hitko.

Now, not saying I wont swap my loadout to hornet bandits and destroy fools silly enough to bow then bs me.

But ya everyone has their opinions, I also don't allow buffs, I wont bs a buffer but I will smack them in the face for it. Buffs are just too powerful imo. (dmb/slb)

No healing is a given, I don't think many people disagree with that.

If I'm honest they are what i think "should" be the rules but sadly iv seen many occassions when the guy pops estus mid what would otherwise be a fair duel. But I agree those are what would be i suppose the "universal" rules of dueling

also i do that 'injecting' on purpose to influence people, please don't point it out again lol!

seriously though I agree with your post. Like I said with my initial post, what I follow as 'honourable' is just what i think are tactics that avoid conflict, and to be honest there is no 'universal rule' for duelling, i would argue that even within the 3 rules that you said are constant, they still aren't universally applied in many cases :|

I think that's debate over right?

I'll give my opponent one buff, whether that be grass, weapon buff, or power within. They get one. And if they do one while I bow and try another I'm charging in.

I understand all of the above rules, but what about against farmers in darkroot garden? At first i always bowed, but i would usually get bs'ed. Now i dont. So the question is, do i need to be honerable to everyone, and if so, do i need to follow all the rules, or just some?

When you are invaded generally you wait until your opponent bows if he does then you bow in return however if the host has Sunbros or other phantoms with him then you don't need to bow. Bowing is optional in all cases the only courtesy you need to give is to wait until they are done and bow in return if need be. When I bow I do it a certain distance away from my target so that if they do go for a back stab then I can just roll away and make them pay for that dirty trick

Haha bowing is only important if you want to be honorable. griefers just uncreatively troll or they 2v1 people I doubt anyone will be too upset if you don't bow. It is more or less tradition.

    1. Bow, buff, grass. Let your opponent do the same. Let him get ready completely.
    2. No healing, unless you are jumped
    3. Stay in the arena, don't hide behind enemies, kick opponent off ledges, etc
    4. Rebuffing, regrassing, re-anything at your own risk
    5. No WoG spam, No TWoP
    6. BS are OK. No Oki BS. Fishing, temporarily is OK - it can add to the strat if you fake fishing, they may adjust your strategy.
    7. Try to vary your attacks.
    8. If you win, bow at the end
    9. Treat trolls, jumpers as you would any respectful fight. Don't be dragged down to their level. Even bow after the fight.
    10. Send "gg" or "gf" after particularly good fights, even if you lose
    11. For organized dueling and a random invader shows, treat them like they are part of the duel. Many of them know what is happening and will go to the arena. Jump the jumpers - this is for organized dueling only.

Agreed! I try to GG often. Sometimes I'll send funny messages like last night I invaded someone clearly doing a boss run with two phantoms. I approached them, bowed, they bowed back and I gave them the best fight I could (without cheese). I held out for a while but eventually they all ran at me at once and beat me to a pulp. I then sent a message saying "PWNED. lol"

    Cheap cheap chirp chirp =D

    About healing:

It's game mechanic, may be? Especially when you invade random people; Why shouldn't they try to keep them self alive????

-Estus → There's an item against it you know?
-Humanity → You failed at keeping the pressure up.
-Miracle → You failed at keeping the pressure up.

    Chirp chirp cheap cheap:
Doh... I invaded someone who has Phantoms soo unfair! Why don't the phantoms stand aside so I can attack/duel the host?

Uhm? Seriously? Do really expect that? You take the risk when invading as DW DM or wahtsoever so deal with it or dont invade at all.

Oh did you know: There is a covenant just for duelling it's called “The Path of the Dragon"

    Cheap chirp cheap chirp:
1)So cheap he used a heavy armor/ high poise to run through my strike and I got Bsed. ='(
2)So cheap he waited for my strike to fish a BS. ='(

In both cases just stop thinking a heavy hitting slow weapon is the solution to all. If you can't finish them with one strike then go and poke them slowly to death.

The only thing that break PvP is the stupid lag and nothing more and nothing less.
