Alright, so we haven't had one of these yet. Fighting Games. I like them, hopefully someone else does too. This thread is my attempt to find those people, and commence discussion about fighting games with them happy

So...anyone else out there like fighting games?

Tekken, Soul Calibur, The King of Fighters and just a bit of Street fighter and Mortal Kombat.

It all began with my PS2, and my brothers that every weekend used to come and play.

My favorites includes: Tekken 5 (PS2),
    Soul calibur 3 (ps2),
    SC5 (ps3),
The King of Fighters 2006 (PS2),
    MK armaggedon (ps2),
    MK9 (ps3)
and very recently Street Fighter classic for Ps3

I have a good history with tekken and MK, though I haven't bought either of the editions on PS3 yet.. though I'm sure I will do at some point.

My favourite fighting games I've played are Tekken 3, Mortal Kombat: Deception and the original Super Smash Bros.

I used to love Marvel vs Capcom 2, but i put it in an discovered how bad i'd become.. put me off silly

Fighting games have become my replacement for Dark Souls PvP lol!

I go back to experiment with and make new builds, but I never end up using them anymore after they're done. I just swap in Street Fighter X Tekken or Blazblue and get my online battling there silly

BTW, my top favorites are (currently at least  ):

    Street Fighter X Tekken
    Super Smash Brawl
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
    Blazblue: Continuum Shift
    Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Been wanting to get into Tekken and Soul Calibur though.

EDIT: Post 2000! Wait...how long have I been here again?

    Gratiz on 2000 post!

Soul calibur 5 for PS3, as any games, has prons and cons, I'll try to list a few, but definitely one of my favorites:

pros: huge customizations of equipment, but lack of face models varieties

Awesome fighting system and combos, classic taken from SC3/4

    great graphics

    Many characters

    cons: crap lore

online system takes ages to work and too much lag

    lack of stages

    lack of offline game modes

You forgot to add annoying main character, unless that falls under "crap lore".

I myself enjoy Soul Calibur too, but I only have the fourth one and the second one at the moment. The only other two fighting games I have are Naruto: Ninja Storm and Super Smash Bros Melee which I don't play much because of Dark Souls.

I don't play fighting games in hardcore way, but my favorite is Street Fighter, for diversity of characters with specific features and amazing gameplay. After SF I like Tekken because the moves are seemed enough with real fight styles.

Having only dedicated to 1 Fighting Game series: Blazblue (Trigger, Shift, Shift EXTEND; waiting for Chronophantasma), there isn't much I can say except I don't particularly dislike fighting game, but I do like them fast-paced with combos. I played a couple of others, but I only own the Blazblue series seeing as it appealed the most to me because:

Story - Plentiful story with plot and comedy thrown in at times. Dialogue is entertaining (and amusing at times: "I don't lust after my brother! I'm into young girl- Wait, that doesn't sound right either!" "Ah! Run, he's a pedo!"), voice acting is great and all that. However, I have only 1 complaint for the future sequel about their decision to unify all 20 or so Storylines into 3, but it begs to question if they are removing "alternative possibilities" or just each character's full progression through the story.

Characters - What can I say: Entertaining characters going from the Professional Troll, to the incestuous, psychotic male tsundere; The innuendo cyborg; Red Hulk; 3-way split personality disorder loli; Loli vampire mistress; Silver-touching werewolf butler; etc.

They each also have their own unique playstyle, having entirely different game mechanics for each person (how do they keep coming up with this stuff?).

Visuals - Fun visuals. Great effects during combat, colorful during storytime. They also go around changing the visuals during certain segments (These 4-wall breaking chibi animations).

    Sound - Boss music.

The entire fast pace system combat - In between double jumps, dashes, combos, bursting and all that; things heat up very easily.

All in all, it's the diversity such a game had. I like the pace of fights, diversity of fighters and the pleasing details such as those personal remarks they make at each other.
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=
I also liked Super Smash Brawl. Quite a unique fighter for me. The stages were pretty swell and the ability to make new stages just made things fun.

The only other Fighter I played was Dissidia, a 3D fighter based around FF. It was surprisingly good despite the fact most character could only have up to 12 moves at a time (Characters such as Cecil had 18; in Dissidia 012, I think Lightning had the largest moveset of all) despite having probably like 20 each of them in total. It was probably the fact that you could personally customize movesets and traits such as jumping and dodging.

Also, every character was remarkably unique with their playstyles (Sephiroth was plenty resistant to block-stagger tactics and had a good up-down air game; Tidus was like a fly; The Emperor was difficult to approach; Jetch murdered).

    Also, stages were entertaining.

Dissidia needs to make it onto PSN as a port. They basically killed any chance it had to really go anywhere by forcing it onto the PSP sad

My PSP actually broke completely down before 012 was released, so I've never actually experienced fighting Feral Chaos. The community I was in ended up banning him from their tournaments though, so I assume he was incredibly powerful :|

Gabranth was fun but I never really used him too much. It just felt like every match was a pattern of Run > Charge > Run > Charge > EX Counter > Aerial Innocence > Aerial Innoncence > Aerial Innocence > repeat." I really liked OK and Shantotto because they had real solid feels for Brave vs HP management. It wasn't just about always using your HP link as OK to chip, or getting max chain spells with Shantotto. Knowing when to build bravery as opposed to going for the HP damage felt a lot more significant with those two than the other characters and I really liked that.

Banned!? Pff. All he had was 3 Guard-breaking moves (1 in the ground; 2 in the air, including one ranged) and Via Dolorosa; every other move wasn't at a practical level. His only good HP attacks were on the ground, which was Via Dolorosa and Deus Iratus [Admittedly, Via Dolorosa was the most OP attack in the game].

However, he even has 3 weaknesses by default:

    1. He is constantly losing Brave.
    2. He is incapable of gaining Assist or EX.
    3. All of his moves cost a lot of CP (Even those moves that every character shares -such as guarding- cost a lot more CP than normal). You would be lucky to fill up his moveset with attacks; many player, myself included, opted to completely remove his ability to block because of CP costs.

I mainly like old skool fighters, it was my favourite genre in the 90's which was the golden era for them. I spent an absolute ton on them in the arcade and was a master at Street Fighter 2 on the SNES. I don't really know how well I would do on it now as I don't spend to much time playing them or modern ones (for some reason they don't have the charm like the 90's fighters, except Tekken). Here's a list of the most memorable games to me.

    International Karate +
Street Fighter 2 (Champion Edition is my favorite out of all revisions)
Mortal Kombat (1 & 2 favs, 9 is really good)
    Killer Instinct
Samurai Shodown games (I still play these, also watch Samurai Resurrection, 4 is practically the game version of it)
Street Fighter EX (I loved it, C Jack and Garuda are awesome designs)
World Hero's series (mainly the first one, played it loads in the arcade)
Ninja Masters (amazing game that I see no one really talk about)
King of fighters (mainly 97, Kim, Ryo and King were my fav team)
    Art of Fighting
    Fatal Fury
    SNK vs Capcom chaos
    Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2
    Street Fighter 3
Tekken (love 6, screw the haters who don't like the juggles)
    Soul Edge
Soul Calibur (I love 3 there was so much re-playability)
    X-Men COTA
    Marvel Super Hero's
    X-Men Vs Street Fighter
    Marvel Vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom (I actually prefer the first one, 3 on 3 is more of annoyance to me than 2 on 2)
Time Killers (it was a bit crap but had it's charm)

    worst fighting games I've played

Rise of the Robots (so much hype over this piece of ****)
Shaq Fu (haha need I say any more)
Clay Fighters (played a few times and thought it was rubbish)
Primal Rage (a couple of times in the arcade, thought it was rubbish)

    Played but didn't care for

    Darkstalkers
    Virtual Fighter
    DOA
    Red Earth
    Last Blade
    Street Fighter EX 2 & 3

I can't think of anymore, I'm sure there's plenty more that I'll remember some day.

    wow...wow..wow...

Tekken introduced juggles in number 6?! wow, thats a major rework if i ever heard one.. I thought tekken's style was good though..

Anyways, might as well ask about some lesser known games I played (and quite enjoyed):

Battle arena toshinden. Specifically 3, but really liked 2, too. Crazy weapon based fighting.. I'd probably liken it to street fighter, cept 3d and with swords

Psychic force 1 + 2. These are probably just as unknown, and only 2 were released (both pre 2000), but I LOVED them, and played the absolute **** outta the 2nd one. Were pretty unique as far as 1v1 fighting games go.

Bloody Roar 2. There's 4 of them, but i only played the 2nd for any decent amount of time. Interesting as you had a beast form you went into, though I felt it's inferior to tekken in every way silly

Guilty Gear. Solely 2D and with weapons, this was even more like Street fighter, with special moves, dumbass long combos, but with a nice focus on rocky music.. And I wonder why i'm partial to guitar oriented music today silly

Anyways yeah... I'd love to know if anyone has played any of these? Probably few of you, but i can dream haha

Juggles have always been there it's just that they were really expanded on in 6. Did you know there are also wall attacks. I've never done one but you can launch yourself from a wall, my jaw dropped when someone did one on me.
