Magic spammers? Really?

i dont get why one shotting is fun for anyone either. And i play a mage as my main.

Sometimes it's not even for fun, sometimes it's out of necessity. I often get invaded when I'm trying to go for the boss, in which case I'll use whatever tactics I think will allow me to get rid of the invader (although as I said, I do find magic fun).

Actually, my overall opinion concerning invasions is that invaders don't get to criticize any tactics used by the host, except blatant ganking. Because as far as I can tell, the majority of invasions occur against hosts who are NOT looking for pvp, and are forced to fight against their wishes.

I have never invaded someone going for the boss yet. Or perhaps I cut them down before they had a chance? I don't know

Invaded some guy in blighttown the other night who used pursuers, which I dodged and I got a hit in. He then runs off and heals. I used shrug gesture and black crystalled as a "screw you". Yes I invaded him but he was a million levels above me and was obviously waiting for pvping and didn't need to be there so imo like me he shouldnt have been healing.

Well, you won an all expenses paid trip BACK into their world today! That's right! You get the luxury of invading the exact same type of players you did when you wrote up this rant. Lucky you!

Sometimes it is fun to do a OHK. In the forest for example. Or, creating a build that is so min/maxed that it can do this, at the risk of dying very quickly. It can be an adrenaline rush to know you are going to die in 1 or 2 hits.

Reim is absolutely right. I used to hate dark magic, thought it was cheap. Then I learned that as long as you know how to dodge it, its just another part of the game. Now Im at the point were Im actually HOPING my opponent uses dark magic because it makes the fight so much more intense. One hit and your dead, now that's fun.

If you really like to fight with "1 hit and you're dead", you should make a glass cannon build.

I would but Im not a big fan of using magic myself. I also don't like to do to much damage in one hit to my opponents. I enjoy long drawn out fights the most but a quick brutal one against a powerful mage is really fun every now and then.

I don't have a problem with spammers because spamming rarely works, it's like bs fishing or any other tactic that's ultimately profitless because it can be avoided and/or countered with fair regularity after some practice. If you don't like casters, keep a crossbow in the offhand and shoot them every time you think they're about to cast, it works with a normal bow too against the slower spells. If they're kitted out to one-shot you, chances are they're pretty fragile themselves, even more so at SL100 which is why I like that SL better, it forces builds to make sacrifices. If they use the bellowing ring, they're forsaking poise and defense by not having wolf/Havels, if they have the Dusk Crown they're making themselves weaker to magic.

That crossbow Idea sounds really useful. Ive never tried that. The awesome thing about it is that any type of build can use crossbows. Thanks Ghadis!

With my pure Int build i'm using dark magic, because I think mages would be totally weak without it. I started this character before i played online pvp and thats why i don't planned it therefore. If you are using HCS and CSS only, magic has to be a supported role in pvp because its easily to dodge. After the dark magic the pure mage is an option for pvp. And against people who know how to dodge its not very useful if you are just spamming. Sure you die sometimes but if there is no lag its no bigger problem than other things. I also thin pursues isn't a good spell. Spamming CSS and DB with it is no fun, so i'm not using it. If you are using DB controlled it is only useful on short range and then it is a good spell. It is like a hit and in this time and at short range you are invulnerable especially for backstabs. Sometimes one hit is enough-> poise break...
Can't say it for all playstyles but i think the balancing in pvp is good, beacuse every benefit has a disadvantage.

i was going to post something exactly like this but majority of people use that dark magic so i thought nobody would agree lol
i despised the dark magics with a passion

I don't despise it. Pursuers is easy to dodge. Dark Bead has warning. The only time it is a problem is when you're really close or when lag is present. Can't complain about lag, because it affects every attack.

I normally don't have a problem dodging Dark Magic except for a Dark bead to the face. Even better when they have Manus or TCC, since it halves the number of casts.

Only thing to look out for is that you might get tagged with the cast because you get frozen in place after you reload. That's not a problem if the enemy mage has no poise, as they often do, it's just that you can't counter every cast with the xbow because it takes away your mobility which is dangerous.
