So since the patch I've swapped my lightening clay for a chaos clay, but I just feel like it just doesn't have the same power. I also feel slow and vulnarable when I swing, and it seems now that folks have the timing down for a perry, obviously on consecutive swings, but even on initial swings. I don't know, I'm considering making a change to a faster weap. What weap should I consider?

The Claymore still has an awesome moveset, it's just that you're used to the 2H stunlocking of the past, right?

You should have gone Claymore +15, with buffs. Would have had more power. Anyway,d on't give up on the Claymore. It's a good weapon, and deadly with quality builds.

lol, 2H stunlock, sux its gone, but thats not why.
And not sure bout the buff idea. 1- its not so much the damage as it is the slow swings and 2- I'd rather not waste the stats...or caculate how much dex/str I need to have the damage output id desire...or the limited # of buffs (dmb, slb) I'd need to apply.
I actually usually win with my clay, I'm not asking because I'm having trouble winning. Maybe I need to learn more about the clays moveset or dead angles, since all I know is what I've figured myself from just playing.
I'm asking because ecently I fought a dude with a great sychthe, who just kept dead angling me with his lil run half circle jump in swing. My counterswing was too slow, leaving me open. I tried to swing so I hit first...that didn't seem to work. I only really had my runnig 360 swing and my rolling stbby poke (which I love so very much). And since then, I've been feeling exposed when I play someone with a faster weap who knows how to use it...or how to avoid the clay.

Practice more and improve with the Clay; if you're getting parried, your attacks are too predictable. Learn to move more erratically and mix up your arsenal with unlocked dash attacks and r2's, any weapon is an easy parry if the opponent walks up to me in a straight line and presses r1, try moving back and forth, closing and opening distance, moving unlocked, and make them uncertain as to when you'll swing.

Well, all that happened was that you fought someone who knows how to counter the speed, attack radius and direction of attack of the Claymore. And if you usually win, why do you want to put your Claymore in you metaphorical display case? Also, I can still coach you on it. I'll message you back when I'm available.

I really don't want to give it up. I hope there are things that I don't know about the claymore that'll change my mind. I know I need to learn to play without lock-on at times and I need to use dead angles more.
I'm down for a lesson, How will it work with no mic? I cannot take any more texting on a controller!!! Let me know.

Have you got a USB keyboard? You could connect that. Otherwise, we could go into a private chat, and you can tell me what you would wish to see, and I shall show.

I'd say take a short break from it - 1 week tops. Use other weapons like ultragreatswords so when you go back to the Claymore you will no longer feel like it is too slow. When I use a single weapon for too long I do something similar to this and I always come back better than ever with that weapon.

I've usually found that I can get bored of a weapon if I either use it too much, or make a lot of builds for it. Like X said, try using a different weapon for a bit. I would recommend either the Butcher Knife, for a STR build, or the Murakumo, for DEX build.

The claymore is one of the best greatswords, you just need to use the R2 to R1 combos a bit more. Only issue with the claymore (and the Flamberge) is that the 2H R1 and 2H R2 have very similar parry timings.

Dude I think you just got done in with the reach and speed...it's happened to me SO many times again a great scythe! I love my claymores but against certain opponents you gotta have a backup weapon.... Claymore +15 buffed and lightning uchi or chaos blade... (obviously depends on your build)

I personally like the Great Scythe a lot. I have a +15 Great Scythe and I use this great weapon with buffs. I use Queelag's Furysword +5 as a back up weapon. But its important to mention that I'm using Pyromancies (Great Combustion, Combustion e Fire Tempest) for close combat.

ya, I like the uchi backup idea. I always keep one handy for gs editors. I was trying out different weapons last night, smaller weaps, like the bss and longsword. They seem so dinky after using the claymore. I also tried the greatsword...OMG, that think was vicious. I've also been practicing fighting without lockon to set up them dead angles, which I'm horrible at now. I think your all right, I 'm sticking with the clay. Thanks for the therapy.

Roll r1 and 1h r2 are great against the scythe, because the Great Scythe's forced movement attacks mean you know where the opponent will be and when he will be there.Halicarnassis wrote:Dude I think you just got done in with the reach and speed...it's happened to me SO many times again a great scythe! That sounds like it was just a case of "paper covers rock." If I meet a balder side sword or rapier with my dgm, and my opponent is any good, I have my work cut out for me, where with my backup large club or an offhand crossbow I do much better.
I'd say roll attacks and/or a ranged option are your bets bets. Its not that the claymore isn't great, its that you let that scythe control the field. Outranging it takes away that control and forces him to react to you, which gives you timeand space to setup.

Supplement the claymore. Use it as your main, but keep a different weapon like a spear or halberd on hand, as Forum said. Or, pop some dex and grab a composite bow.
