Is Havel's ring needed? Empty Is Havel's ring needed?

    Post by declaredmetal1 Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:56 pm

Havel commited suicide by jumping off the side of the stairs leading out from the top of his tower. He took his ring with him. Can I still weild heavier gear later in the game or am I doomed already? I still can't believe this happened. btw, this is my first try at DS. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

    TL:DR - No the game isn't ruined.

ring of Favor and Protection will help with that. But it's only a 20% weight boost opposed to a 50% increase. Mask of father also boosts equipment weight. A lot of people go without any of those things on though.

It really depends on how many points you put into stamina and what kind of armor and roll you want.

Try reloading your game. The ring may be there, where he fell.

Is Havel's ring needed? Empty Havels ring

    Post by declaredmetal1 Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:05 pm

That is the exact info that I was hoping to hear. I was reading some of the build suggestions and It said that Havels ring was a critical piece to equip. Starting over would feel cheap. I think this game is meant to be played with the cards that your dealt (for better or worse), Thanks for the quick response. I have no idea where to find those items but I'll keep my eyes open and shield up. btw, I did reload the game with high hopes that the ring would be there. Those hopes were quickly dashed. oh well.

Look where he spawns, not where he died. Some NPCs will die or commit suicide falling off cliffs (Pharis, DWGR Ninja, Leeroy, Lautrec) and you can get their loot from quitting and reloading the game, only it won't appear where they died, but where they spawn.

Havel's ring can be very important for some builds, but most of the time the ring of favor will serve you better.

Havel's Ring is one of the 4 major Rings in the game. It is recommended to obtain all 4 rings as they are substantially useful to most -if not all- builds. However, losing the Havel's Ring does not put you into major trouble, as you can easily find rings to add; you would most likely not be able to go full specialist-esque, but there are still plenty of convenient rings. If anything, it means that you would have to be more considerate of your armor choices, as you have lost a large ability to wear strong armor/weapons while keeping mobility.

The Ring of Favor and Protection, however, can be of similar usefulness as it strengthens your natural ability, giving you similar benefits to Havel's Ring.

Assuming you had the Master Key to get there, you lost out on an amazing early game ring.

There are a lot of others rings you might use instead, since Havel's is used purely to wear heavier armor and still be able to dodge, but not many that can be found as early as Havel's.

But don't fret, the loss of the ring could be seen as a good thing. With Havel's Ring, you'll get used to using heavier armors and taking lots of hits... Without it, you'll learn to dodge more, which means you'll learn enemy attacks better which will make you better at the game.

If you still want to use heavier armors you can, just means you'll fat roll instead of mid rolling.

If you're a magic build, you probably won't even notice the loss, as there's much much better rings you can use, and you get to look a lot cooler in your lighter armor.

TBH, I almost never wear Havel's Ring (I feel like there are other rings in the game that offer more) if I can negotiate a way to get to where I need to be using the RoFaP. It's an overall better ring.

Sometimes I need neither and in those cases the versatility my toon is afforded is downright ludicrous.

Taken into concideration how early in the game you can get the ring, my best advice IF it you can't find it at his spawn point and IF it is crucial to your build, is to start over again.
I do of course not know how far into the game you are, but the more you learn the game the shorter it takes to clear it.

If you really want the ring later, keep playing, and ask later on this forum for someone to give you one spare. I always kill havel in NG, NG+ (etc), so I have spare ones, and even toons not using it anyway. Just tell us your sl and I'm pretty sure someone will be able to help you.

I have rings to spare on soul levels from 20 to 120, you can have one if you still need one...

^Just after I say "pretty sure", Sure posts a reply. That cannot be a coincidence... Are you the genuine Pretty Sure? (the Pretty Cure version of Sure)

I agree with scalp. It is a very helpful ring early on. Since you are probably really early in your game, just start over. Or, have magicians give it to you, like he offered.

So you admit it and refute it at the same time. I see why you are a magician now... :cyclops:
