An archmage often can react poorly to interruption. Please reconsider before it is too late.

Post by mugenis4real on Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:18 pm

Recently Iv'e been doing a ton of Undead Burg PvP at SL100 with my Pure Mage/Wizard/Spellcaster. I'm not sure whether anyone else has noticed this or not (PS3), but it seems that the decency of bowing to your opponent is no longer a thing. As soon as I invade another players world, one of two things happen. Either they wait for me to bow and backstab me, or they never bow/attack and keep dodging around the arena (before I even begin cast my first spell). Every now and then I'll get someone who still holds to a shred of of honor and we will have a fun match, but for the most part it seems that I'm treated with either unrelenting aggression (charges me as soon as I spawn), or with extreme fear (chasing my opponent for 5-10 min). Are people going crazy? New players?

Has anyone else noticed this? Shrug

The burg is just a huge pain. I like to play around there sometimes but, you get the most annoying people when you host. Now I know not a ton of people agree with me on this one, but I refuse to duel someone who buffs his weapon with sunlight blade, eats a green blossom, and starts charging at me while I finish whatever my chosen emote is. I'll just run straight off into the mobs and wait for the buffs to run out. I'm not dumb enough to stick around in firing range of a weapon that can two shot me with r1s. I think its even more annoying when people send me hatemail for abusing my faster movespeed to run through a level full of mobs I haven't killed yet to buy myself some time.

Everyone seems to think that the burg being a center for 1v1 duels means: that the opponent will just stand there and die when you fire up the nukes and won't do anything to defend themselves.

It's because martyrsbrigade made bowing not cool anymore. Now I love martyrs, but stupid people who watch his videos think he's encouraging them to fight dirty when that's simply not the case. Honor still does mean something, and I'll still be suspicious of people who don't bow to me.

Once I summoned a red phantom in the Painted World.

What's the very first thing he did?

Bow? No. Attack? No. Admire my looks? No.

When he appeared he instantly ran to the enemies and hid among them!

actually, by not bowing and acting like a douche he is encouragin people to do that, even if he's not actually saying it since most people that watch vids on youtube act like tools and do everything the streamers/uploaders do becausse they think that's what everyone is doing.

First area of undead burg is horrible. Half the time I invade, I have a high level character beckon for me to join him in the plaza (usual dueling arena), bow, and as soon as I bow his buddy runs out of the door (under the archer's tower) and pulls off a hornet ring BS. Que the "well, what is it" and "look skyward".

^ Something similar happened to me in the Painted World.

I invaded this guy. Him amd his buddy are above the first doorway. Both of them are trying to shoot me with their greatbows. I don't see them till I'm at the top of the stairs past the fire. I run under them and cast SLB. Then a third guy suddenly chained BSed me to death. The archers were just a distraction.

Reading you guys's stories really saddens me.

I've been dueling since way back when we used to do it in the Kiln! That turned to **** quickly, though, and there was nothing anyone could do to change that. Then the Burg was the next place to duel, and that was amazing while I was there. Thankfully I stopped going there before it turned into what you guys are describing now.

I used to fight tirelessly for "honor duels" because I always knew that if I, and others like me, didn't fight to uphold some kind of honor code, it would devolve into this. Here, on youtube, on PSN, I'd voice my opinion strongly whenever someone was doing something that would lead down a slippery slope. But it's not easy being the one with your finger in the dam and eventually there's just too many cracks for anyone to block. So I gave up the fight a long time ago.

I'm sad to hear what it's become, but I'm not sorry! I did my part, I tried, but more people wanted to be on the other side of the fence. If that's the game they want to play, let them have it that way. I don't play much anymore, let alone duel, I've had my fun.

If I'm going to end this reply on a positive note it's: be the change you want to see. It's not easy, but if you want the game to get better, there's only 1 way to do it: keep being honorable, and try to convince others to do the same. If you really want it, it's possible. (I'd suggest you start by changing your designated dueling location. Once an area is lost, it's pretty much impossible to right it--try turning the Forest into an honorable place and see! silly)

Been there, tried that. However, I still uphold my own code of honour when fighting. I, personally, never run into anyone who dosen't bow, even at the Township. And I still don't understand what made the Forest become what it is today.

Well the forest was doomed from the start! Because of the game mechanics. The Kiln, though, was a sad loss... I don't really know about the Burg because I haven't been there in ages, but from the sounds of it it's gone the way of the Kiln. (Is hosting bad, though? Invading, anywhere, is prone to ganking. But if hosting is bad too, then you can forget about the area. Generally once the ganking is so bad no one will want to invade anymore so the hosting will go too.)

The Burg is still okay on Xbox, it's just so dead that I'd choose these horror stories over its current state.

I've noticed there is a lot less bowing in DkS than in DeS. When people bow to me, I back up (out of BS range) and bow back. When I'm hosting, I bow from afar.

Forest is best place for pvp imo. I've had plenty of honor 2 vs 2 duels there since about, Oooooo 10/05/2011. You get jumpers, but you get that anywhere.

Host in order to control the tempo and black crystal jumpers.

Forming/Participating in a fight club chat also helps.

That what I do whenever I'm the target, back away from the invader and bow. I wonder how the xbox burg is now? Last time I went there I got tricked by the host into bowing when he bowed and got hit square in the head by a Gough arrow from a red who was the host friend.

The township is so-so depending on what you want. I get questers who one-shot you so thy don't die. Some are nice about it others I seen get ticked. I have a habit know of looking at what the silhouettes do beforehand since some gank. Then once I invaded a host who had a red and while loading I found they were friends and I fought 1v2. won both.

Host side, I'm going to tell you to clear everything from the bonfire to the elevator. Chances are your invader would take the chance to run past you to the mob heal and taunt you for bad skills.

If you still have an honor code follow it. You realize the difference between fighting dirty and fighting like you still are above it. Even if you lose you will be glad for having honor in your fighting.

I played today for the first time in weeks. I didn't go to any proper dueling areas, but I did invade a while (and got invaded a few times) and I got people to bow--even in random invasions. I don't know about the dueling spots, but people still bow outside of them at least!

I don't even bother bowing in the burg anymore, I just stand there and wait till my opponent is ready. All the people I run into are either bloodthirsty hollows or gankers which has made me slightly paranoid.

The Moonpit still has some decent people, though I've met some hollow invaders and gankers there too. Still better than the rest of the areas for fair dueling though. Also the Painted World. At lower levels there are lots of gankers and solo hosts, but there are a lot of meta PvPers looking for duels, and plenty of Japanese fight clubs going on.

Ah but you are just adding to the problem, are you not? How am I to know if you are ready for the duel to begin if you do not bow, or vice-versa?

Even still I cannot blame you for your paranoia. The Undead Burg has fallen from the good graces of whatever gods that stood guard. It now serves as more of a feeding ground for the depraved devils, lying in wait to devour those who would see Lordran brought to light. A shame it is. Such a shame...

. I tell you how this is, someone gets invaded in low lvl or whatever doesnt matter and the host gets trolled or the invader is abusing the situation while host is bowing and many more dirty tricks. And invaders not all but just wan a duell but they get ganked and banged hard most right at their spawning place that lets traumatize behind to the invader. Somes can take it some not, that why one dumb does start it other dumbs following that way.(not even about humanity or souls no, all about geting revenge). If atleast half of ppl woud think like u,dArk souls were pretty okay.

I don't bow. When another player bows, I back up to show I'm not going to cheap shot them, then continue on with a normal fight.
