Got honor or did you become a hungry hollow?

Title says it, but you could add a why.
I vote for the second choice, simply because most of the ppl bow and bs fishes you or usung cheap tricks, like estus, bow then gank, lure mobs while fighting, poison etc.

Im sick of this sh1t.

If it's in the Burg I do the honor thing (even though I've been backstabbed there a few times) because I think that's what the place is overall. If I'm in the forest, I don't worry about it because it's pointless. Sure there may be some honorable people there but the numbers are so low you can't count on it. It's a shame and I feel guilty when I kill someone doing the honorable thing but I don't bow, etc...

Also, take some rep. Not exactly sure why you got down-voted. Probably because people might be thinking you're looking to start another honor war. I don't think you are, though.

If my opponent seems to want to duel and there's no sign of a trap nearby (like hiding phantoms etc) I will fight him honourably as possible.

If my opponent is trying to kill me using any means nescessary, which includes stuff like ganking, using mobs, or enviroment, or, in the worst case scenario, using glitches. I will fight him with every dirty trick I know.

I prefer a honourable 1v1, but I also like to do the classic invasion, where my goal is to kill host at any cost.

I really dislike backstab fishing of any kind and more than half people fighting in 1v1 duel aim for my back so much, it looks like they're trying to steal my wallet. This makes me starting to hate 1v1 duels, even in FC and events, because, even though we usually agree that it is all friendly, my back ends up with a lot of scars.

I try to be as honorable as possible.
I bow if I think there is time to bow. Even if it's a 1v2 or 1v3.
I heal only if my opponent stabbed me while I was bowing or against gank squads. Or after my opponent heals himself. <--- I don't realy like it when it happens in a fight that started good and just turned unfair because of that. "Ok, you killed me... But it's like I killed you twice before that"
I don't particularily hate cheap tactics, try hards or gankers. The only things I hate are and even sometimes. I often take those gestures as insults and believe most using those are conceited persons.

But in the end, I'm calmer than I was before and it doesn't affect me much after 10s.

i vote for solaires head in the clouds.

i simply react to my opponents play style, even in the forest. it still gets me backstabbed when i find someone to duel and then another invader shows up but usually the duelist breaks off and starts either killing or gesturing at the attacker if its a fellow forest hunter... i still need to start stocking lloyds talismans for invading though cause every host seems to heal nowadays even if they bow....

I'm a bit of both to be honest. For the most part I don't look for an honorable duel, I just look to steal humanity and leave. However if the host is alone and keeps backing off nervously but they're still locked on, I'll bow and try to have an honorable duel with them. I've had some very good fights in the Painted World recently most of the time it ends up with either me winning or us both killing each other and that doesn't bother me at all.

However, if they use estus flasks are anything like that my honor is thrown out the window and I will backstab you to death.

I fight honorably in an actual duel, or if we both bow. However, I'll only fight as dirty as my opponent does. for example, if the host ganks me, I'm gonna hide behind enemies. If the host BSs me, I start to BS him.
If they heal though, I'm going all out to kill him.

This is a topic I've actually been thinking a lot about recently...

I voted for the first choice- "Honor and respect are important to me"- because I definitely make an effort to fight honorably- even though honor really isn't that important to me...

I try to bow before every fight- even if the host fights dirty or is an obvious ganker. I also refrain from backstabs because I recognize that some people see them as extremely unfair. Mostly- I just try to be friendly. Dark Souls is fun! And it's just a game... and even though it's easy to get carried away by the role playing of it- at the end of the day everyone is playing for the same reasons- to relax and have a good time fighting each other in Lordran. I don't mind if other people enjoy "trolling" or ganking or being super competitive or whatnot- and I want to allow everyone to express themselves in any way that they choose... I chose to try to express respect and friendliness- because that's what I would most want from whomever I'm fighting with...

Ultimately though, I do think the honor code is taken way too seriously... it's just a game- if you get backstabbed by some cheap fighter- no big deal- you respawn and try again... It's totally OK for the AI enemies to kill us in really cheap ways- but if a real person does it- they're worthy of a nasty gesture?

In conclusion- I feel strongly that Dark Souls is a role playing game- and I will respect you regardless of the nature of the role you chose...

It depends significantly. If I'm dueling, then I conform to the agreed rules of engagement. Every fight starts with a bow and letting your opponent get ready, no item healing, etc.

If I'm invading, then I'll use the environment, hide, sneak, and almost any tactic to kill the host. I usually don't heal (unless they do). I don't bow before fights (unless they do).

If I'm in the forest . . . well, it is all out war.

Personally, I think it is great to have such a diversity. If I get sick of one aspect, I'll go to another one.

If I am in what I believe to be a dueling situation then I will bow but when in the forest.
If I am invaded I will usually not bow unless I see the host at a distance or the host gestures first.
There seems to be very few duelists in the moonlight butterfly forest, Most of them will fight honorably and then Gank me if an invader comes or if I win.

Second option.
I used to follow the honor way but then I got tired.
If I'm in a fight club, obviously I'll follow the rules.
But if I'm invading I'll just preserve my life. I'll do whatever I have to win, including healing and ome other stuff if the other player does first.
I won't use cheap ways if the player is playing fair.
Not to mention that people always complain about honor and leave you with almost no options of fighting styles, which I think is pretty ********.

I try to stick to honor while dueling, but I also make sure to protect myself versus the bow-stabbers, spawn jumpers, surprise gankers and any combination thereof. I'm the guy in the burg whose sign is always against the wall. And I've gotten to the point where I'll BC out right away if it doesn't smell right (a phantom hovering just a little to close whether red, white or blue will do it).

When someone invades me; I usually try to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible -- but I don't bow-stab, I may not always bow back though... same goes for when I invade as a DMB, I am a ruthless assassin unless the guy seems legit in an area where he might expect a proper duel. In the forest if a guy bows I'll wait and then rip his ear off -- unless he's got a phantom. I've had gankers bow! The host bows and his attack dog charges in... Wiskey Tango Foxtrot? If I can see him clearly enough while laughing I'll bow-stab that guy...

I'm gunna vote honor, because my ruthlessness is saved for the guilty.

I use my sense of honor, which is set higher than most others', all the time except for when facing a hacker. I like to respect all of my opponents even if they are ganking me, or even if I know I won't get it back.

I don't care if other people don't follow my personal honor code either, I just suck it up and try to prove to myself that I can still win without using certain weapons, spells, or tactics.

well after going for the second option i feel myself much mroe free, and i can figth as i like.

I dont figth like a coward, like healing or luring mobs etc, but i go full out. if he seems to be an arogant person or a ganker/jumper then i insult my enemys with gestures like

obviously when i invade a unexperienced player i let myself kill, there is no point in killing them whenever they bow or not.

That's why I didn't vote in the poll, because I do both.

As far as gestures after I win, I always bow, even if the person I was fighting was a total jackwagon.

In that case, I don't bow. I generally don't even gesture and just walk away.

Honor and Respect.

I usually host in the forest by myself. If i'm on a large winning streak and a dishonor person beats me and breaks it, I won't really care. I'll just brush the lost off, and start my streak over again. I'm a very competitive pvper, but a win is a win. No matter how cheap the other guy got it, take the lost and move on... No point in being salty about it. That's my honor code.

Yeah....the code word for me has never really been "honor", I would have to go with "respect" instead.

Only thing I can give to my opponent is respect and you can be damn sure you won't get it by using ultra easy-mode builds or tactics wether you win or lose against me. I don't expect you to give me your respects either if I behave like a douche in a duel.
I would wish people wouldn't be SO desperate to win...of course it has to be your main goal in the end when dueling, but can it really be fun only using the cheapest weapons (sometimes buffed too...) and just spam R1?

Show me something original, show me display of skill or interesting tactics and you'll be sure to have my respect because that is all I have to give.

I'm not at either absolute; I think it depends a lot on the situation. If I'm invading and the host flees in the direction of the boss fog, I'll usually let him go. If he bows before engaging, I'll play with some honor, like no healing or using PvE unless he heals. If he has phantoms, I use everything cheap at my disposal. If I get summoned and an invader appears, I use everything cheap to kill him before he gets the host. If I'm the host and get invaded, I'll fight honorably only if I'm near a bonfire. Sometimes how I play also depends on the gear my opponent is using - if I invade a host who's fat rolling with a drake sword I'll go a little easier on him.
