CALLING ALL PRO BACKSTABBERS

im sl 119 on ps3 in the undead burg with my pure sword style
i simply wish to increase my backstabbing defense my evasion of magic and attacks has already been nearly perfected
SPAR WITH ME so i may achieve DarkSouls Godhood

I wouldn't consider myself a pro backstabber, but I'll 1v1 you. My main build has burg open, so should work out.

There are no pros in this game u can be godly as you want,someone else pop out of nowehere and bs you burn you kick you down cliffs trick you with the teleporter in oolacile twn or just smash ur head with a big weapon. Welcome to dark souls... pros :] but sure go ahead and train.

The only thing I'm pro at is getting backstabbed.

the fact that you say there are no pros in this game made me stop reading and..

this game is about precision, timing, knowing your surroundings, and overall awareness
you will always be notified about incoming invaders giving you time to mount a defense

magic and pyromancy is simple enough to evade once you get used to the way diff techniques are cast
and to be knocked off a cliff is ridiculous you should never have your back to a cliff, come on now..
and though backstabs tend to be annoying there are multiple methods to avoid a BS allthough challenging at times (especially with terrible connections)

and you say welcome to dark souls as if this is new to me lol
just because I'm rarely on wiki doesn't mean i don't spend hours on the game

what I'm saying is Godhood is achievable if you ever get a taste of it you'll know exactly what i mean

Lol calm down no need get frustrated i said keep train.. sometimes u just cant do anything cuz u get trapped somehow once (most of the time i invading so u have no time to think sometimes) example (gankers)tht why i said welcome to dark souls. But well im just a noob tht get killd by noobs and somehow i beat players tht play nonstop that game now tell me im pro?

Lol I'm no pro man but with a dwgr I can roll bs you like a boss, there really is no defense against a well timed DWGR roll BS to be honest tho

Anyways I'm on ps3 hosting in the Burg pretty much every night again at sl 125, I took a little break just getting back on and could use the BS practice anyways

I second glatts, you can't defend against roll bs other than using a spear or not attacking.

Against a spear you can still get it all though much haarder of course, maybe a good spear user could pull it off but most get sloppy and it just takes that 1 mistake lol

You can unlock turn around and parry, or attack if you have a fast weapon, or so I was told and even saw it on a vid.

Ya man that stuff all works if they are just going for a poise BS or fishing hard for a BS, I always have on at least 1 piece of kirks and I just roll into the bs and cancel it!

But pro roll stabbers wait till your already swing commited and helpless unable to parry or swing again. But you have to use the DWGR a fast roll doesn't cover enough ground to get behind them in time. That's why is you still see someone using the DWGR and possibly a rapier lol there's a good chance that's what they are up 2;)

I'd say the best way to avoid backstabs is to backstab, unless...

You have patience. I mean Godlike patience. Mother Hubbard and her shoe full of kids kinda patience.

I find my backstab avoidance ratio increases exponentially when I'm focused and willing to engage in a 5 minute duel. You can increase your defenses to said tactics, but imo you can only do it with patience and counter manuvers you're probably already aware of. ie, counter pivots, parries, horizontal attacks, etc.

Ironically I believe you increase your ability to backstab by becoming more aggressive and then applying patience later on once you're comfortable with the mechanic.

Personally, castings are my method of preference for avoiding and intimidating bs fishers. However, a pure swordsman such as yourself doesn't have that luxury.

Casting may work for people dumb enough to just rush in for a BS, smack them in the face with a CSS or something, but once again for DWGR roll stabbers doesn't work. Personally I find casters the easiest to BS, in the time it takes to cast CHSM or presuers there's plenty of time for a BS and both spells will delay and not hit. Dark beads and spears are the same deal as WOG easy roll BS also.

Really like Ghadis said a spear is your best bet along with good spacing. Another method that I do aggree with ya on is being aggressive and getting in there face, they can't roll BS if your right in there spamming a falchion for instance.

Unlocking and using erratic movements works also, roll stabbers rely on you being locked because they wait till you swing then unlock and land it, if your all over the place it makes it waaaaay harder!

Sadly it often takes a loss the 1st time but we all remember there psn, next time be prepared and have a strategy, grab that spear or get in there face and spam a flachion ect!

thorns armor rolling helps counter/cancel the roll BS if you roll after your attack into him

Ya for sure very true Glute, I wear atleast 1 piece of kirks on every build I have lol;) But even with kirks ya gotta have a weapon with a quick recovery time, if you commit with a halbert or something your beat lol!

Thats true. But I dont use any of those. Left hand combustion pyros, along with a well timed lock off Chaos Fireball, mixed with the occasional Force spamming do quite nicely. I also said its a method I use for intimidating and avoidance and/or creating space. Aside from pivot parrying the attempt, there is no method to avoid a backstab once they are behind you. At least I dont believe so. The thorn armor does not work all the time for some reason, prolly lag i guess.

All I gotta say is fine, I'll parry and give you my backstab from the front side.

Also, if you need a spear to avoid backstabs then you probably need more practice. It is a great way to create space, but having a spear in your arsenal is in no way required to get good at avoiding backstabs., I’m not saying your are saying they are required.

Erratic yes, careless no. Getting carried away by flipping around all over the place will deplete precious stamina and put you in a bad position. I’m not saying you said to be careless, I’m just stating the obvious.

I’ll agree with your points on the use of the DWGR. Its on 50% of my builds regardless of its current popularity.

I still say patience is the key.

Lol I meant agree with aggression against someone trying to bs. If someone has there mind set on bsing they usually don't try a parry. Even if they get past a falchion for instance you will usually cancel the bs.

Sorry bro you said castings not pyro I think of the 2 as seperate things lol. Pyro is a great defense much more so that force or wog.

I was just giving examples for the OP I myself don't rely on a fachion or a spear, I hate spears and never use one. Most flip stabbers don't even know what a parry is lol. But as far as parrying a falchion if its used unlocked with a slight delay it very hard to parry actually it also stunlocks like crazy.

I don't use the flip ring on any builds, after the dlc nerf its useless I have always been a fast roller. Was just giving examples of how a flip stab can be hard to defend against when someones good at it!

By erratic I meant for instance using a claymore and moving around unlocked, then throwing a well timed spin attack in maybe. I you stay linear and just attack against a roll stabber your falling into there trick!

Sorry about the castings confusion, I shoulda been more specific. I just thought it was a moot point because the op is pure swordsman I believe.

Everything you’ve said is good advice imo. With the exception of the DWGR being useless. But I think you meant for you because you are use to fast rolling right?

My take on it is it did get nerfed pretty hard, but it’s the only reason my attunement build is even semi-viable in competitive pvp. The only thing that kills it is my clumsy cycling through attunements and not having backstabs as a punish. The only thing that saves it is pyro and the DWGR. The additional i-frames and distance can be utilized still, but not as significantly as I’d like I'll admit.

Also, I didnt mean you personally regarding spears. As I reread that I thought I should clarify.

Really I have played dks for so long I don't do random pvp when I duel, I only duel with friends so I don't have to worry about cheap BS's!

When I do host in the burg I only summon people I know and only have to deal with the odd vader, most people are usually pretty cool for the most part tho!
