lightning weapon vs. scaling Empty lightning weapon vs. scaling

Post by Ruhkasu Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:59 pm

    Hey guys,
i'm fairly new to darksouls and so i was wandering around in the wiki and looked at some different weapon stats.
i noticed that for instance the +5 lightning greatsword has combined around 650 damage but no scaling
and the enchanted version has around 450 damage combined, but A scaling for intelligence.

so i was wondering if the A scaling on the enchanted greatsword can make up the -200 points compared to the lightning version?
and if so how many levels would i have to put into it?

sorry for beeing a noob winking

    ps: praise the sun!

Yes, scaling weapons have an advantage over elemental weapons with the right stats.

Use this for weapon and stat comparison: https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/

Mugenmonkeys calculator is what we all use to "premake" builds.

    Welcome to the forums cheers

Well, enchanted usually isn't a stat that's invested in. Both have Split Damage, meaning that it does half damage in physical and half in something else. It does less per, and thus defense blocks MORE on each damage type. The more you have in 1 (as in, a physical +15 weapon) the less armor can block.

The best way to see what will do more damage is to try both. You use different materials for Enchanted and for Lightning, so I'd say give it a go with both.

Well, there's a lot to consider.

    1) Look at the wikis combat section for an explanation of poise and its breakpoints. There's not any reason to have 73 poise.

    2) I assume you meant for the swrod to be in your right hand.

    3) Having that high of an intelligence stat without any sorceries could be considered a waste.

    4) Its really hard to incorporate strength and intelligence. Its definitely doable, it just requires a little more know how in comparison to most dex builds for instance.

    5) As Broski pointed out, split damage is something to consider, especially when utilizing strength.

    6) If you have 75% of the strength required to use a weapon, you can 2 hand it without any penalties.

    7) MOST IMPORTANTLY...if this is your first build, just play dude. Make it through the game, dont worry about your stats and test every weapon you can. That way you can start over, like we all do, and start a build with a more informed decision.

    Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!
