Darkmoon invasions and "sinning" Empty Darkmoon invasions and "sinning"

Post by lextune Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:06 pm

I started a new toon today. Got to firelink, made my way to the Burg bonfire and turned human to kindle. Did not level up. Still at my Bandit starting level 4.

I left the room to make my way to the boss, and got invaded by a Darkmoon.

    There was no "sinning".

Just a glitch perhaps? Like trying to invade and ending up being summoned instead? Or is the whole sinning thing a crock...?

On another note; the guy destroyed me with Wrath Of Gods....WoG in the Burg....what a tool.

I sent him a pm that simply said, "hey what level are you?" He replied 62. Which probably means 75.

....just what n00bs in starting equipment need....*sigh*

That's a harsh accusation ^ Why not be polite and just ask.
    I think its insane a 75 DM can invade a level 4.

Didn't purposely, or accidentally, BB glitch....thank you very much, lol.

And it is weird that the Darkmoons have no level restrictions. Where is the fun in having a level 250 invade and destroy a level 25 player?

actually bb'ing trtansfers sin from the old file, doesn't give you any in my experience. and dm's have no restrictions cause of their rareish invasion criteria (cause its easy to remove sin now)

My first playthrough, I had a dilemma where I used the cracked eye orb early on to see how it worked followed by the host being killed before I reached him and every time I went into human form to beat the gargoyles I was invaded by one of three different Darkmoons walloping me with their NG+ gear - making it rather difficult to absolve my sins.

I have reservations about that particular faction.

Sinning might be tied to PSN / gamertag instead of characters.

Another weird thing about the bb sin is that Carim claims you haven't sinned and there's no way to absolve it off your character (you still can for "regular" sin). It's like you're permanently branded a sinner via the glitch and exposed to DMB invasions forever. I think it's hilarious and more proof the "glitch" may be anything but.

This is a good theory and coincides w/ my experience. I was invaded by a DM w/ my 2nd char, definitely never 'sinned' or used the BB glitch.

I also don't believe 'sinning' (in regards to oswald) has anything to do with the darkmoons. From what I've seen getting indicted is what brings the darkmoons on and once that happens there is no going back. It also seems to be tied to the gamertag and not the specific character either.

I tried starting a thread like this to see what others have experienced so we can get better knowledge as to how this actually works, but it never took off.

Everyone is a bit confused here....

Darkmoons have invasions restrictions. Yes they can invade lower levels, but no, they can't invade any level below them.

According to some maths here it is:

If you start as a Cleric, you can get Faith to 28 at lvl 17. That is the required for WoG.

As a Darkmoon lvl 17, you can invade people from lvl 4 to lvl 27.

    So you were just unfortunate.

As a Slvl 120 darkmoon you can invade from lvl 98 to lvl 142. Unlike Darkwraiths; they can invade anyone that is the same lvl or higher than them.

I was level 4 and he admitted to being level 62. So that math does not work.

And the wiki says a level 700 can invade a level 1 and vice versa.

So I don't know where you are getting your math.

I just read it in the wiki, it not true, Darkmoon can't invade ANY level below them. Also he may lied to you. I've never been invaded by a Darkmoon who has more than 25 levels more than me.

Also Darkmoon can only invade without level restrictions in Dark Anor Londo. With my Slvl 120 character I invaded people in Dark Anor Londo USING THE RING, which are much lower lvl than me, but only with the ring.

Blue Eye Orb has lvl restrictions. I don't know the exact formula, but I use a Calculator made specifically for Dark Souls that tells you the levels you can invade using different items in different covenants. Also I use it to build characters, that's how I know the guy can have 28 faith at lvl 17 with a cleric.

The Calculator says so, and from experience I can confirm it.

I'm going to modify that info until someone disproves it. The only way to do so, it's if someone tried invading while being different lvls the same guy.

I just calculated the approximate formula here is what I wrote in the Wiki:

"The Blue Eye Orb has level restrictions, the approximate formula it's:

    ( X+- (10 +- (10% of X))) where X it's your current lvl.

    This means that
    for example, you're level 50, that means 50 +-( 10 +- (10% of 50)) = 15,
this means that if you're SLvL 50 you can invade people from lvl 35 (50
    -15), to lvl 65 (50 +15)."

At least form experience that's how it worked for me.

PS: The ring of the darkmoon covenant doesn't have any level restrictions.

After thousands of invasions, (on both ends), I have found people lie in the opposite direction, (which is why I said that probably means level 75; half jokingly)....

Why would a level 17 tell me he was a level 62 after killing me?

To make himself look less elite?

    Does not compute.

Either the wiki is right and there is no level restriction at all, (almost certainly imo), or I was the victim of some sort of glitch, because I am a very experienced PvPer, and the guy was WAY above me in level.

Just got invaded by another Darkmoon, (lost again).

I sent him this message; "Hey I am trying to do some research on invasions, will you please tell me what level you are?"

    His reply: "38"

....I have leveled up to level 7 to wield the Claymore, and will not level up again. I will continue to report my findings.

Well I told you that the only way to verify it is by invading the same guy ( a guy you know and can trust) while being a lot of different levels.

For example being lvl 25 and the guy invading is 25. then 30, then 40, then 60, then 80, then 100, finally 120. That's the only way to confirm 100% that the Blue Eye Orb has no level restrictions.

I'm sure it has restrictions, the formula I gave it's just an approximate. I have more than 1200 hours and that's what I experienced at least.

If you want we could arrange a place and I could try to invade you with my slvl 120.

With all the buggy systems in this game it's hard to fathom that you got invaded by a someone greatly out leveling you. I have invaded as red and blue, DW DM or ForCov, and had some pretty crazy rewards from all 3. The other night I was in the ForCov, invaded some guy, he died before I got to him and i recieved 606k souls, though I don't thinki there is a level restriction for ForCov. I was 53 at the time, the calculator says he was SL 613. Thats over 550SL's difference lol. I have had the same happen as a DW in the Forest and once in Kiln. I have even seen over 350k with the BlueEye in Parish. So he may have been level 62 or higher and the game had poor selection at that moment. Which sucks, but I think sometimes the forumals get a little buggy and just do w/e they want. Perhaps they missed a check in the code /shrug

Anyways. It is true you can be under level 30 and have WoG. So he may have just lied and told you 62 so you didn't assume he was a twink/griefer. low level WoG spam is effective because most new player won't expect it, or know how to counter it. Thus making a low level WoG spammer is a great way to Farm noobs for these guys. Still don't see the allure myself, not very satisfying to spam a confused player. W/E floats their boats i guess.
