Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
From realized that, had Ornstein been in Oolacile, the player's innate desire to kill everything out of curiosity would have lead us to try and kill him in the past as well. This would have broken the stable time loop and created a temporal paradox. Thus, in order for Ornstein to still be alive in the present, he couldn't have encountered us in the past.
The only reason Ornstein wasn't in Oolacile, was to keep you away from him. From knows that deep down, you're all blood thirsty killers!

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
It would have been nice to at least hear what his voice sounded like, but yeah I probably would have killed him.
I don't know where you could actually interact with him though, maybe just as a summon for Kalameet?

That would have actually been a nice chance to see the "dragon slayer" in action. Now I'm sad that it didn't happen

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
I respectfully disagree. If FROM wanted him in the DLC they would have made him invincible! He would be able to teleport across the map to hit you then teleport away. His lightning would strike you from miles away and incinerate everything round you! Be glad he's spent a millennium in anor londo with his skills wasting away to nothing so you could beat him!

If he could do that, then why didn't he bring down Kalameet himself? If I remember right, the dlc only takes place 400 years ago or so.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
That's why I say have him as a summon while you fight Kalameet! You could have his sign right before the ladder that leads down to the fight. Then once you beat the game and go on to NG+ maybe we could have a change of cutscenes like Sif.

Maybe he just wasn't IN Oolacile? I'm not so good with lore, but isn't it his duty to protect anor londo and the princess?

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
Having him available to summon for kalameet would be awesome. Especially considering that when I fought kalameet, nobody wanted to throw down their signs, so I resigned myself to skipping the tail in NG and getting it in NG+ and killed that smug bastard with sorcery.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
Maybe he was busy getting cuddly between Gwynevere's cushions? In all seriousness though, it would have been awesome to see him in the dlc. I really wish you could summon three people so you could have each knight on a team. It's like the freaking Justice League of Dark Souls.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
I no longer remember I whereI got 400 from, all I know is that it happened sometime after Gwyn linked the fire. That was 1000 years ago right?
Lunar: Yeah, I get the feeling that that's all he's done since Gwyn left.
Everyone else: The more I think about it, the more I wish he was available for the fight

I'm pretty sure DLC takes place 400 years before the original game. It even says it the DLC description (I'm 90% sure) and there were several old interviews that had Miyazaki say how long before the events of the DLC takes place before the original game which was always around 400 years before the game.

I'ma have to check the dragon bone fist. Since it came from the iron golem i assumed it got it's name because it was intended to punch dragon bones.
Technically priscilla is half dragon so she doesn't really count...
moonlight greatsword is....
and the dragon tooth....
wellshit.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
The core itself came is made from a dragon's bone, hence the name.

Found a source, turns out it's 300 years before the main game. Not sure why I kept remembering 400... probably those stupid 4 kings

Hahaha oh well it was a valiant effort.
Anyways back to Ornsteing. So while his fellow knights were fighting the abyss and, presumably, dying in their battle he was slammin the princess of sunlight for sum 400 years or so? Ornstein sounds likes my kind of man.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
I loved that Pic
It makes perfectly sense. But what I don't get it is why Ciaran and Gough went to Oolice as well
I mean, Artorias is the only one who "can" fight the abyss
I already forgot everything that Gough' says to you, and the only reason Ciaran followed Artorias its because she was in love with him.
I know that someone already posted this on the archives but I'm lazy

He's got a point every time Ornstein would try to slam Gwynevere she would just disappear. Talk about playing hard to get.

Haha, awesome pic
Gough being in Oolacile is just weird, it seems most likely he imprisoned himself to seek enlightenment given he still has his dragonslayer bow, but you have to wonder why his key was outside...Carphil wrote:It makes perfectly sense. Mass speculation:
- Spoiler:
I think Ciaran went to Oolacile with Artorias despite not being able to tread the Abyss, perhaps she waited for his return but he ended up succumbing to the Abyss. Maybe she was still around out of her love for him and decided to wait for someone to put him out of his misery.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
Now that you mention it, isn't the number 4 taboo in some asian cultures? Like how superstitious people here don't like the number 13, for them it's 4.
But on topic: can't you not go to Oolacile until after you've fought O&S anyways? Wouldn't cause a paradox if you've already killed him in your time, then go kill him in the past.

Right but if you kill him in the past, then he wouldn't have been alive in the future. Thus you would not have fought him if he was already dead. It's possible that you would still have fought S to get the Lord Vessel though.

Re: Why Ornstein Isn't In The DLC
Totally, 4 is in (at least Japanese or Chinese) a lot of Asian cultures the unlucky number, mostly because they sound similar to the word "death". Just like there's no row 13 in airplanes/theaters or floor 13 in buildings, the 4th floor doesn't exist in Asian buildings.BLA1NE wrote:Now that you mention it, isn't the number 4 taboo in some asian cultures?
