Dragon's Dogma: Yes or No? Empty Dragon's Dogma: Yes or No?

Ok, so I've played the demo of the game, and I really like it, but I've read a lot of different opinions and reviews on it. Is the game worth it or not?

Do not buy...yet. They are bring out a disc titled "Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen" this April. It will feature the original game, in addition to a large DLC which will include: A new dungeon, enemies, items, skills and, apparently, a storyline. All this for $40 as opposed to you buying the original game alone for $50.

Is it worth it? It has an interesting combat system, but the game has horrible balance problems in between classes (Mystic Archer = God Tier; Bows = Top tier) and the game absolutely cannot keep up with you during end game as you get too strong, only being a handful of places that still pose a threat to you. In addition, the game has a NG+ system, but all it does is restart the game with you retaining everything. So, the problem is that the game does not moderate the difficulty appropriately and so the difficulty starts to decline.

There are additional problems of 1 save file. The game having large amounts of customization available, and later letting you customize your character completely whenever (Even change gender), it is no wonder you might grow to like your character. However, because of the leveling problem, you'll want to erase the save file so you can start at level 1 again so the game can be challenging again.

However, the game has a very entertaining combat system and animations (Best running animations I have ever seen). It is always interesting how you will go about a battle as their are a variety of ways to tackle them due to the variety of classes. Again, however, there are tactics that are just too effective to make use of the more creative ways to battle. You may do them just for the lulz, but the level of practicality isn't on par with the simplest methods of "Grapple and hack" in the case of melee; magic/high magic, in the case of Casters. The only class that can actually be creative while practical are bow classes due to them having "status inflicting" arrows as well as "BOMB" arrows that let them have some insane damage outputs (Seriously people, test those Blast Arrows out, they are powerful, fun and flexible).

The game has some insane amounts of customization (More on the Dark Arisen version) and you can really give your character any look you want as they don't limit most customization to genders (Not even hair), although they do limit clothing for males (That's right, there is women exclusive armor, but no male exclusive armor). I for one can say that you can actually make a Male/Female look beautiful, you can make them look like heroes or some overgrown juggernauts; whatever suits your fancy.

In terms of story, they seemed to try to copy off Dark Souls by giving a low detailed story for the most part. But, all this ended with is a main storyline and a bunch of "unfinished" side stories that really aren't explained in full or not given much effort or speculation material (I recall only three that actually had a conclusive ending). The rest actually have you wanting to figure out if you did something wrong because it looked half-done or a rather uninteresting ending, which is a shame considering a bunch of these could have been great stories.

Is it worth it? Dear Demonrider, that is a question only you can answer.

Alright then, I'll wait for the Dark Arisen version, and then I'll get it. I have confidence not this one.

I second that. Absolutely get it, but you might as well wait a month for the Dark Arisen DLC.

And play it on hard mode when you do get it, it is so sooooo much better on hard mode. The problem of overleveling is null on hard mode.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you: Bloodlust and Autonomy.

You shouldn't get autonomy until the very late though, unless you are grinding like crazy. Even then, unless you are a bow user, it's not easy. And a blind play through isn't going to know about those perks either.

Regardless, it is still a much richer experience on hard mode. More aspects of the game shine.

I played it through a bit after release, still havent done it on hard mode, but i think it'll be a nice difficulty for a game that can at times become rather intricate.

I say get it for sure, and that you should wait for the DLC package, someone might as well benefit from Capcom liking to rip off the original fan base.

It's a good thing there's a good running animation, you'll be seeing it a lot.

everytime someone makes a Dragon's Dogma thread, I have the same thing to say, running, running like kenyans.

I made my character black so he could be better at running because there's so much of it. Your character must be goddamn Mo Farah at the end of that game, for the amount of marathons he has run.
