any tips on getting first/second page arena board?

hey so.. i blab a lot on this silly board and i've noticed that a lot of other people who frequent the dark souls pvp boards across the net are actually on the first few pages for the arena board as well..

i usually log on, get 3-5 streak and then quit out and co op or duel.. i don't honestly care for the thing, but i figure i kind of have to get a decent streak before i wander around blabbing about pvp on these boards.

so either tommorow or the next day im going to leave my ps3 on for a day or until i get like.. 20-30 streak. whatever is near the front page.

before i do this.. i know i need to bring repair powder and possibly even more sets of armor (unless just going for like 30 isn't going to be an issue) with me but is there any tips you guys can share for actually preparing for the streak once i'm on it and can't leave? and i need to always host so i don't get lagswitchers as well correct?

I don't know about lagswitchers, although in my first time in the arena I had a win streak in the early 30's before I got taken down by BS fishing lagger spamming WoG. He was mad too since I fought him before and he didn't do any of that and he taunted me and sent me a message calling me a noob. lol.

I didn't notice the status of my equipment degrade very much at all by the time I was done. Just make sure you have 99 humanity(every advantage counts) and the max amount of grass or arrows if you use any.

OH! And I don't know if it was just me, but I've had waits around 20 minutes in between some matches, so get a laptop or something.

Be sure to hone your counter bsing reflexes, it is intense.

My strategy for countering BSers is backing myself into a corner with my shield up and poking.

Hmm, my 16 streak is 252nd on the PS3 arena, so that would be the third board I guess. A 30 streak should put you above 100 I'm thinking. In terms of tips, win the first match. It's the best thing you can do to reliably win, not because you run away but because it pressures them and gives you an often unreachable advantage. Also, heal yourself. The other person will do it, so you might as well too. Either 12 faith for Heal or 14 for Great Excerpt.

i've got 2 great heal excerpts and a sks for point advantage.

i mean.. saying i even get to 20 or 30 (i'm sure i can tho), do you think my armor would start to get into trouble? should i get backup sets or would it be fine? because i'll do like 5-10 2v2 rounds and most of my gear is at 75%, my katana is usually in a much worse state but i have repair powder..

i've considered going with a ohko bs/parry/spell build.. but i don't know that just seems like a one trick pony, i feel someone good would put the build down eventually vs having an all around fighter..

oh and what about like a dwgr and heater shield to swap my wolf and gcrest for in case i get into a situation where i'm not sure if i'll win, just to get a draw..? think i'd need it?

Pull out all of the stops since losing isn't an option. I'm not saying play extra dirty or anything, but definitely menu swap to a spear with RTSR at low health.

Keep extra sets of your armor only if you're going for over a 40 win streak. If 20-30 repair powder is fine.

Counter-BSing. That is all. You seem competent enough to get everything else done.

I was fluctuating between number 28-32 on the leaderboards but stopped worrying about it. I got bored after a certain amount of time anyway, I was the one who ended my streak. I think I'm still in the 60's.

Yeah bring repair powder! I lost my 49 streak when all my weapons just broke down and all my stuff was at bottomless box...

Probably not specific enough though (sorry). But, I expect you to be in the 2v2 at night, so get your arena streaks another time, please. 8)

BTW, 2v2 is my favorite PvP by far. Especially with people you know and in a chatroom where you can talk with them.

Mine took several hours straight and there wasn't even for like...4 to 5 draws, so get prepared for a loooong sit down.

Well, all I have these days is my 83 streak, and I can say you won't need to worry about armour unless you are aiming for a +100 streak; I only needed one replacement set at that level. However, bring repair power, and weapons. If you are going to be in there, you'll occasionally face some really bad people, and that the chance to mess around, and have some fun. I personally bring in a Crystal or Drake Sword, and a base Gargoyle Halberd that I pick up in transit to jokingly fight with. Having a Heal miracle isn't really necessary if you are aiming for only 30-40, and that's what I normally cap out as when using a random build. Small tip is to always remember to roll when first landing, the sooner you can get the first kill the better.

Having a game, or something to act as diversion helps with the wait times between matches. It's also important to not be a scumbag to most of the players you fight, as odds are you'll fight them again, and they'll have a bad attitude. This stands especially if you tie with them, as they have no reason to leave, but players will often stick around after a loss to try to get vengeance. Take the fights carefully, and having a 3 minute song to listen to during the fight helps pace yourself. I generally pick something Street Fighter to listen to, but make sure to have it ready to play; scrambling to start a song is a bad way to start a fight.

it's hard to not be a scumbag when that definition is different to every player..

i mean some people get mad when i simply drop out of the box with a kat in my hands haha, you know?

The people with the dedication to get these high streaks amazes me. I'm not sure I how far I could go even if I tried. Certainly not as far as others that much is certain.
